When is using first names appropriate?

I agree, but it doesn't tie in with why members of the older generation of army would use first names (even with the RSM!)

    CADPAT Molle

Aside from the definitions above, an example of the MOLLE system (for modular pockets e.t.c.) is the new bayonet frog and the weave-mount on the front of the TV.

    after all this training

At Unit Level, I found the training to get better (in terms of diversity) and working in a unit (instead of a temporary PL) makes things easier-going since you get to know the people you work with a lot more.

    New Rucks

Well said, especially when I consider that my Unit (or units of 31 CBG anyway) was supposed to get the Vest last year in September (this date stayed the same) and the Small Pack during Christmas the same year (talk about screwed out of a present.) The Ruck was supposed to be September this year...

    New Rucks

If that's the case, I might ditch the 82 pattern skeleton frame for my ruck and put a 64 frame on (or maybe a shelf-style ALICE frame in case I have to tote the SF Kit again soon.)

Merged Quotes and Sayings Thread; some useful, some junk

This one was recently on a range during a BMQ course's PWT The candidates were firing groupings for zeroing; one of the Ptes didn't understand this and fired off five rounds as fast as he could... BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG! WO: Pte. _______, do you think you're tearing it up in the ghetto...

When is using first names appropriate?

I don't know about the CO, but I've seen most Sgts and WOs call the RSM by first name (since they've known eachother since training.) But this is rarely done in front of junior ranks (I was invited in the Sgts Mess when I saw this.) It's a line that shouldn't be crossed but, like I said, in rare...

    Hackles

Although a bit off-topic, I felt it would be interesting to ask about "toories." The little bit I heard from a Sgt was that the Toorie on Belmorals and Glengarries was used as a formation marking. When Field Comdrs would assess their strength, they would stand on a hilltop and be able to make...

Merged Quotes and Sayings Thread; some useful, some junk

Since I have heard so many that are possibly already posted here, I will only post the latest one I heard used an SQ course I worked on as an ADMIN NCO: MCpl: "Pte._____, do you have a drivers's licence?" Pte._____, dogging it on his ruck while everyone is cleaning biv site: "Um, yes, MCpl..."...

When is using first names appropriate?

Appropriate Use of First Names: 1. Addressing others while off-duty in your respective mess (the mess is referred to sometimes as a place of relaxation, thus this should be a given.) 2. When addressing eachother within Section Level and/or the conversing members are the same rank and "both"...

    Washing the ground sheet?

No...I laughed my @$$ off when he said he ran it through the washing machine (because on BMQ, the first thing we were told in regards to the groundsheet was "DON'T" put it in the washing machine!) I've seen the aftermath of this; it ain't pretty, and your mood certainly won't be when you wake up...

    Washing the ground sheet?

    Leadership and Non-Issue Gear

Nothin'  like seein' the Top of the food chain smite your own kit regs...what irony  ;D Just like my CSM on SQ and DP1 INF. The only non-issue kit we could use was a nuke bag and maybe Nalgene water bottles (don't ask.) Yet when the CSM (who enforced the issue-only standard) came on our patrol...

    Leadership and Non-Issue Gear

Perhaps I'm not the only one thinking this, but what the heck... What was one of the first things we as soldiers we told (in general) after becoming qualified soldiers? One example, we are "Trained" Soldiers now. We have to "know" ourselves and be self-reliant. This includes the suitable use...

    Leadership and Non-Issue Gear

When I was on course, the only thing I was allowed to use for after-market kit was a nuke bag. The course staff, however, had restrictions too (ie, they mostly had to use issued kit, with only a few exceptions like patrol bags) and there was even forbidden kit they couldn't use while teaching a...

    Leadership and Non-Issue Gear

The are two sayings that pop up every time I think of getting aftermarket kit... "If it isn't broken...don't fix it." - (ie, if you're gonna be issued it, or something close to it that works, don't bother buying it.) "If the shoe fits, wear it." - (ie, if a patrol bag helps you carry your...
