with the rucksack  it generally comes down to personal preference as mentioned be for it is trial and error as to what works best for you anyways that was my 2 cents best of luck with the patroll make us proud

i have mentioned this befor it does not matter what your age is as long as you can do the job

through out my career thus far no one has got mad at me or anyone else for wearing a knee brace you should not have any problems just as long as it does not hinder you in the performance of your duties
