Body building and the Canadian forces

I've managed to get in some pretty decent shape while on tour, but never particularly big just lean and toned.

That and the steroid use that tends to be inherent in the sport doesn't tend to make it terribly compatible with the military lifestyle. If you were gonna try to do it regardless of these road blocks you'd probably be best off in a trade that spends minimal amounts of time in the field.

Fitness for Operational Requirements of CAF Employment ( FORCE )

Really? Well I haven't and that's where our experiences differ I suppose.

Which is was why I said it is unlikely but not impossible.

Fitness for Operational Requirements of CAF Employment ( FORCE )

Once again I agree with you as I have friends who've been in this position based on body mass index charts and all that b.s. If you're a female who's mega cardio fit but just doesn't have the mass to manage a ruck march then what good does your fitness do the CF if you can't pass the basic CFT? ...

Fitness for Operational Requirements of CAF Employment ( FORCE )

I agree with you that fitness should be graded on a curve ie. a 40 year old W.O shouldn't be expected to turn in the same time on a run as a 20 year old private. However if the fitness standard is based on a run or a ruck march and an individual is unable to pass it unfortunately hey can't turn...

    Walts, posers & wannabes (merged)

That's a fair comment but when there's absolutely no potential for legal ramifications then the Waltery is completely out of control. You get guys claiming that they're ex SAS, ex PF, and Falklands vets and all kinds of other B.S!

    Walts, posers & wannabes (merged)

It doesn't seem to be as prominent here as we have laws that prevent it but in the U.K they don't and there are always some ridiculous instances of Waltery. There's a website called "the Walter Mitty hunters club" and there are some real crazy Walts out there.

    Walts, posers & wannabes (merged)

Whatever the case I always look forward to Remembrance Day to see the Waltery in full effects. There's usually one or two good instances.

I agree completely that competence in your trade should be the 1st priority but fitness should be a close second. Basically what people here seem to be asking is "do you want me to be good at my job or do you want me to be fit"? The answer is as a member of the CF IMO that you're expected to be...

    Food

In my experience the best results I have ever achieved were by training hard and eating clean for approximately 8 weeks. I had a reasonable base to start with but by being clean and consistent over that week period I achieved some very good results. After that period once I had a good lean body...

Fitness for Operational Requirements of CAF Employment ( FORCE )

I don't see anything wrong with creating levels to create competition or give people something to strive for. IMHO, I think regardless of your performance you should still have to complete a fitness assessment every year without exception.

    Food

Good idea! IMHO nutrition is actually more like 80% of the equation. You can train your ass off but if you're not eating the right mix of protein, good carbs, and good fats it makes the process more difficult if not impossible. That being said genetics can make up for some dietary shortcomings...

Ya I would plan on trying to achieve that sculpted frame while on course. Leaning out requires you cutting back on your carbs and that's something you're gonna need during training.

Whatever the test is comprised of I like the idea of having one standard for everyone regardless of gender. It's refreshingly honest for it to be acknowledged that not everyone is suited to doing every job and that some people just aren't physically suitable.

    Food

IMO what they're serving for meals will be the least of your concerns while on course.  I've been through the recruit process twice. Once here and once with the Brits and all I can say is the food wasn't brilliant but there was enough of it. Most of the time you're run ragged and sleep deprived...
