Canadian Forces Aptitude Test (CFAT) [MERGED]

Short answer, NO. Read the rest of this thread before you post.  If someone gives you a copy of what the test looks like, then it isn't really a true TEST anymore, now is it?

Question for the Air Force types

Indeed I did.  As the kids say, "my bad". Well I'll have to agree to disagree.  This whole discussion started by someone saying that the CF is generally "over-ranked".  I think that 2Lt could stand for a whole lot more, and likely should.  But no, in it's present iteration, 2Lt doesn't mean a...

Question for the Air Force types

If it were up to me, all CFRs would go immediately to 2Lt or even Lt.  I felt embarassed for the CFRs that I was on SLT with, as they were only OCdts and were lumped in the same pile with us 18-19 year old ROTP types.  I know they were getting their old pay rates, but the rank on their shoulder...

Question for the Air Force types

Maybe I'd be happier if DEOs didn't get commissioned until they finished their phase training.  I know this would be a long time for some, but there's a great deal of credibility involved in receiving a commission, and I don't know how someone with three months in the CF can be expected to have...

Question for the Air Force types

Right, so if you're DEO this means that you've joined an organization and received a promotion within 14 weeks.  That seems a little too quick for me.

Question for the Air Force types

Agreed.  2Lt shouldn't equal "I've graduated university" and nothing more.

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

By this logic then, shouldn't all MARS types go through Portage for lead-in flight training?  After all, it would give them the perspective of what the MH types are doing. Let's get realistic here - MOCs have a specific role, and can't be expected to know how every other MOC that they interact...

Question for the Air Force types

I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the RCAF rank structure.  Now, before everyone jumps on me, let me explain. My grandfather was a Squadron Leader, but not once in his 25 year career was he in command of a squadron.  At one point, he was a Pilot Officer, but he was a Navigator, not a Pilot.  My...

    Cadets with Reserves on FTXs...

Mandal, this is how I interpret it: In Canada, The C-7 is a PROHIBITED weapon (i.e. civies cannot buy one). The AR-15 is a RESTRICTED weapon, and it sounds like it will soon also be prohibited (civies can buy one, but not for much longer). Cadets (with many restrictions and parameters) can...

    Cadets with Reserves on FTXs...

Cadets are indeed exempt from the Firearms Act, as previous posts have spelled out.  Of course, this only applies to CF weapons, under proper (i.e. CIC) supervision.  This is why they're able to go on a range or carry rifles on parade.  However, running around in the field with weapons would...

    Cadets with Reserves on FTXs...

Some more info that would seem to refute cadets acting as enemy force, at least in Central Region (i.e. Ontario): CRCO 1803, para 5:  "Tactical exercises with weapons (real or simulated) and "war games" are forbidden." http://www.central.cadets.ca/crco/1803.pdf Seems pretty clear to me.

    Hey ya'll-Any Grey and Foresters?

Give this site a shot (it's a database of WWI soldier's attestation papers): http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/02010602_e.html Just so happens that they have records that match your name and date!

    Cadets with Reserves on FTXs...

Where do you think a great deal of the recruits for that army come from?  One of the primary goals of the cadet system is to foster an interest in the CF, and there's no better way to do this than by showing them exactly what members of the CF do. Case in point, the affiliated unit (441...

    Cadets with Reserves on FTXs...

If you think that parading once a week is a fair and accurate representation of what your unit does, then yes, I suppose that is enough.  If not, which is what I suspect is the case, then we have a different story.

    Cadets with Reserves on FTXs...

Air Cadets get to fly in CF aircraft, Sea Cadets get to sail on CF ships, so why not allow Army Cadets to train with their affiliated units.  After all, that's what they're there for: CATO 11-33, para. 4 "Affiliated units are expected to support their cadet corps/squadrons..." Further, para. 6...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

My point was only to reinforce and agree with what you were saying - we've used this amphib capability in the recent past, and it would be a nice thing to be able to do on our own.

Ottawa Area Reserve Infantry Units + Joining Questions

Ask a co-op and/or guidance teacher at your school.  Even if the units there do offer a program, it won't matter unless your school's willing to send you.

East Timor for example?  I seem to recall pictures of a unit landing this way (R22R?), so I'm assuming it must have been an allied ship they were landing from?

    MARS Training [Merged]

I know you didn't ask me, but as another example, a guy I was on SLT (second language) with in St Jean was MARS, but got to finish it up the next summer in Esquimalt.  That was in 1999 for what it's worth.
