Going for Air Nav doesn't require that you attend Aircrew Selection in Trenton - the written test can be done locally at your Recruiting Centre (you don't go in the simulator for Air Nav, only for pilot).  You will have to attend an aircrew medical in Toronto though (1-2 days).

Any travel on military business is paid (including a cab or bus from the airport if necessary), including meals.  This would include going to/from BMQ.

Leadership is tested practically (i.e. out in the field - Farnham).  You are given a task and have to complete it in a set time (e.g. set up a landing zone for a helicopter).  They don't really care as much about how well the task turns out, but rather that you follow the process that they have...

Back on to the subject of this thread, has anyone done the Air Nav course recently?  I'm trying to get a feel for what it's like (level of academics, amount in class vs sim vs flight time, etc).  What are the shacks like in Winnipeg?

I'm curious as to what the likelyhood is that voluntary releases are granted for DEO types.  I've read the policies, and I know that you definitely won't be granted a release if you're about to be deployed, just received an education, etc., but how common is it for someone who's got 2, 3, 4...
