    CIC recruiting process...the medical

Just a warning - the CIC recruiting process is often placed at the bottom of the pecking order in terms of a Recruiting Centre's priorities.  I've seen many people wait 6 months to a year to be processed.  As for the medical, well, as was said, it's a joke.  I know CIC types missing a kidney...

    Civilian jobs

Here's a civy driver job in Trenton.  May not be the ideal location for you, but at least it gives you an idea what they're looking for. http://www.jobs.gc.ca/jobs/p033963e.htm The jobs.gc.ca website is better if you're looking for jobs specifically with the federal government.  jobbank.gc.ca...

CF Hair Regulations - superthread [MERGED]

Many females do decide to cut it short anyway, at least while on BMQ.  Not necessarily a close buzz like the males, but shorter - a lot easier to maintain, particularly in the field.

Has anyone from DEO heard back from Borden yet?

Unless there's something odd or unbecoming about your past, they won't call your references as far as I know....yet.  Once you're enrolled they will start processing you for a higher security clearance, at which point they likely will call your references.  What level of clearance you need...

    video from CFLRS

You're right in your assumption - it doesn't really make much of a difference whether they're regular or reserve.  The training is essentially the same. To the best of my knowledge, fall part time BMQs run on weekends and generallygo from aprox. 1830 on a Friday until 1600 on Sunday.  In terms...

Another report of WMDs found in Iraq

No, no, you misunderstood.  I'm Air Force, we don't play in the dirt! ;)

Another report of WMDs found in Iraq

In all fairness to Joe, the problem I had originally was only with the way he phrased what he was saying.  I didn't like to hear "...everyone knows that..." when he was talking about something that is partly opinion rather than necessarily fact.  Unless you're talking about something that is...

Another report of WMDs found in Iraq

Regardless of what my opinion is on this subject, these kind of blanket statements are pretty dangerous.  Particularly the comment on the CIA and false paper trails.  What FACT are you basing this statement on? Man, I'm starting to sound like a twisted and bitter university prof.

Vision Questions Megathread, Categories, Problems etc.

Indeed, pilots require 20/20 uncorrected, and without any laser.  Only other Air Force trade that MAY require that is Air Navigator (it used to anyway, but I think the standards have changed recently).

CF Hair Regulations - superthread [MERGED]

When I went through St. Jean, the whole platoon lined up and we all filed into the barber one by one.  Even guys who had regulation cuts, and even those who had it shaved down to the nub (not recommend - you'll get a sunburn on your skull when you're doing PT without headress!).  Essentially...

    Acne

Several fillings, 2 root canals, and no worries!  This is my third round through the recruiting process, so it can't just be that I snuck through either.  Unless your dental health develops into a serious enough problem that it would somehow impair you from doing your job, I don't think it's a...

A-10 Warthogs for the CF ??

Missile systems need guidance systems to make them work.  Since the Griffon doesn't currently have any weapon platform (other than bolt-on C6s), this would require a big addition to the electronic systems of the aircraft. That and money.  Lots and lots of money.  Again, something the Air Force...

A-10 Warthogs for the CF ??

My apologies, I did mean the Joint Strike Fighter (F-35).  Getting my aircraft confused!  We sunk about $150-200million into the JSF already, so it looks like that's the direction we're heading.  Given the current update of the CF-18 though, it likely won't be for another 10-15 years that we...

A-10 Warthogs for the CF ??

If it happens, I think it'll be a long, long way down the road.  The Air Force has too many other priorities to deal with first (replacing the Sea Kings, replacing the Hercs & Buffalos, bringing air-to-air refueling back online with the Airbus, modernizing the CF-18s & Auroras, and bringing in...

A-10 Warthogs for the CF ??

Harriers can't pack the same amount of armour as an A-10 since they already require so much fuel to take off and land vertically.  That and the A-10's got a sweet chain gun that's pretty effective.  Ospray's?  Shudder.  Those things are nothing but problems.  Still, the '18s will have to be...

A-10 Warthogs for the CF ??

They were used for both air to air and air to ground (both precision guided and dumb bombs) in Yugo in 99.  Unless things have changed since then? I know this isn't strictly the true definition of close air support, but it's the most recent example I could think of.

A-10 Warthogs for the CF ??

Well im planing on staying in the army reserve for 7 years including one tour.   In the same time, im getting a Bachelor of Education majoring in Physical and Health Education.   When all this is done, im applying at the Air Force as a pilot.   Hows that for a plan? Good on ya.  Welcome to the...

A-10 Warthogs for the CF ??

They're using them in Iraq right now.  How many have been hit?  I've heard of only one hit, and it returned safely to base.  Maybe they're only using them on less vulnerable taskings though?
