Medium Cavalry: Critical Capability or Poor Man’s MBT?

I strongly suspect that the Infantry Corps will insert themselves into a IFV variant if only for 2-3 BN. Assault Troop wasn’t like a true Mech Inf entity, it was more a close support, local security, mud Recce, Pioneer type entity. Frankly I’ve come to the belief that Canada needs to create...

Medium Cavalry: Critical Capability or Poor Man’s MBT?

Yes. I probably should have mentioned that option. The US Army notoriously only buys US designed Armored Vehicles, so I tend to doubt that it will be selected. BAE snuck in the tent as they bought the armored vehicle portion of FMC, and so inherited the 113 and Bradley - and the staff and...

Medium Cavalry: Critical Capability or Poor Man’s MBT?

I had thought from previous discussions the numbers for MCAV was ~500 and HDFM ~250 no? Gunners moved H Hour ahead without telling anyone again :ROFLMAO: HDFM has some pretty specific attachment modules. I do not see the HDFM being the same platform as MCAV, short of a Merkava/Namer...

Well with all the kit that appears to be on order - the PRes is going to look like CMBG's - probably better equipped than the CA RegF CMBG's have been to date.

    Political impacts of Ukraine war

Russia does a slew of third party transactions. Anything sold into several of the “stans” tends to not be for them, but for Russia. They have more than just a shadow fleet, they have tons of shell corporations worldwide to effect sanction evasion.

    Political impacts of Ukraine war

Kill figures during a war (and in cases of fairly non permissive areas after) are next to impossible to work out. Tons of casualties got dragged across the border in Afghanistan into Pakistan as well, to often be replaced by more. Even closed sources on Ukraine and Russian casualties can vary...

My concern is with ~5k LAV, ~500 CFV’s who crew these? Especially if there are more Tracked IFV/APC in the matrix. Don’t get me wrong I think more equipment is fantastic. But if a BN has ~100 vehicles that is a lot of vehicles, even if you have a 100% War Stock.

So the Armoured School isn’t… Canada (well the CA) wants to have 2 RegF Armoured Reg’ts. Now that is ~90 MBT’s, simply for operational units. One would need at least a Squadron + for training at the Armoured School. Plus ones for the RCEME folks to use for training on maintenance...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

CABC in Edmonton used to house the Mountain clique. Mumble mumble something about it being a task for Airborne - eye roll emoji isn’t loading for me. Where quite frankly any Army serious about Mountain work generally puts the school well actually in the mountains or as close to as possible.

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

My big concern about that is while down here there is the 19K (M1 Crewman), 19D CavScout MOS, and 11C (Mortarmen), 19C (Bradley Crew) and 11B's in those units. -- in Canada, the Infantry and Armoured line serials don't split like that. With "unification" of the 11B Infantryman of the 11M and 11H...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

I’d suggest some of their intentions for the PRes seem lofty - and Gun Batteries are a better use of PRes Gunners. I’d say the RCAC is currently stuck in Vehicle Limbo. It needs more tanks for its RegF tank regiments. The “Medium’ Cavalry Vehicle is coming, apparently, but that doesn’t...
