Well, it would be one option. I suggest they leave the crossing closed and after a suitable cooling off period (about 10 years) they can sit down and maybe work something out. Apparently the mayor of Cornwall is opposed to having the border crossing in his city. Just keep it closed.

A guitar is far too big for a carry on. I flew United a few years ago and they lost my luggage. Their service desk at Pearson was swamped with luggage that was set to the spot. They gave the impression this is normal and not to worry. That airline has some issues.

Well Otis said it takes 2 weeks for the files to get to Ottawa via Canada Post and another 2 weeks for the files to return. (since he works in Toronto I guess that is the time from Toronto) So if you live in Ottawa in theory Canada Post shouldn't be as much a factor.

Well according to Map Quest it is approximately 5.5 hours one way from Petewawa to Toronto. So a lot depends how many weekends you want to spend 11 hours traveling. If you need to take trains or buses it will take longer.
