S**ts getting real up here man. Full paradigm change. It's not like we can't make plans, we just never had the governments support and funding to do so.
Honestly, the info points to 1280 sitting as warstock. The army's goal for current-future CAF operations is ~3800. The ~5080 number would be for mobilization and casualty replacement. That's 3800 all variants as far as I can tell, which means ambulances, engineering vehicles, supply etc...
The MCAV program from that same information would add 250 - 500 tracked medium cavalry. I have no idea what that is supposed to look like. I assume CV90/Bradley style with 4 dismounts possible. But that's not going to help with infantry tracked mobility. Given what the rumours are stating...
I would be happy if we learned about policy changes from the CoC instead of minister or CDS media announcements.
Which happened a few times well before we even had direction.
As far as poorly thought out, we'll we needed to take big swings. Knowing what the potential downsides were didn't...
Noah over at True North Strategic Review (substack) who has some pretty reliable sources posted this today (I've corrected his typing/spelling... that's the only edit) : This Week in Defence (05/11/26): 5080 LAV?! MCAV Update, Canadian HADES? Bill C-31, FASST-V Infobox, Lots Of Random Thoughts...
River Class Destroyer program. Canadian Patrol Submarine Project. I can only speak for the RCN on this as I was adjacent to some of those discussions. Very much a larger strategy in discussion there.
There is certainly psyops and foreign interference going on. And morons on reddit trying to get ppl going.
AL lot of the rage bait stuff wasn't in the AAR (like this 3 month thing). We also knew that people who culturally had issues with either each other and women were getting in, but if...
14 major policy changes and trials 2024. 6 major policy changes in 2025 (including the massive implementation of the Online Application Portal and MELs).
There was a point where we had gone from change fatigue to change exhaustion in summer 25. However after OAP they let things ride for a...
I posted this on another thread, so reposted it here.
1. If you haven't read the AAR written by the CO of CFLRS you should do so. And read the whole thing, all the data, stats, challenges and recommendations. Aside from a few spelling errors (the man wrote it in English and is French, we'll...
Kept us in the submarine game without having that skill set evaporate/vanish, hopefully long enough for a small core of submariners to grow to the 12 sub size that we need.
Its one of the main reasons we got Asterix when we did, to ensure we didn't loose the skills for RAS from the supplying...
That's why the bought the particular type of launchers that they did. They are the Mk41 version of torp tubes. Can fire a variety of options, and are configurable for future weapons systems. An anti-torpedo torpedo is perhaps one of those options.
I'm fully onboard with this take. I like how he points out that endurance is roughly equivalent to crew size. The other thing is the KSS III is larger, which means room for growth as well.
AFAIK the RCN UXV process is buy small, experiment a lot, fail fast, reiterate.
The RCN isn't going to build a ship for UXV's its going to get UXV's for the ships we have. At least initially.
We are very very new into UXV's in many domains and are yet to see how they shake out. Canada...
Drone carrier is a headline grabber. Especially as drones are just small boats, small aircraft and very small submarines.
The cost and scalability is the drone advantage, none of the tasks have changed.
We're still in first reading. There is plenty of time for adjustments yet as far as I can tell. But yah, implementation is key. We've been complaining about burecratic slow procurement for decades.
I guess one should be careful what you wish for sometimes!
Unshackled, uninhibited, uncontrolled and unaccountable. Pros and Cons.
I like parts of this bill. But its essentially dictatorial in nature. It feels like there is a lot of room for abuse, porkbarrelling, IP infringement, overrunning other government departments etc...
Not saying that some...
Too much. But I suspect it will be worth it.
($4.98 billion for six, $2.1 billion for the two CCG variant costs) Remember accrual accounting, that's not sail away price, its the lifetime costs.
That is... unusual.
I suppose if you're going to spend $35 billion for actual proper ports and your current ships that sail through the Arctic don't actually need a refueling station in that location.
Money and effort better spent in other places makes sense.
Looking back at my enthusiasm for...
