    Guns or Drones or Both?

Is that a box on the ground that enables you to reach the ladder to climb up to the cab to? I think we've finally found a vehicle taller and more ungainly than the TAPV. It just seems to me one could put the same drone launch capability in a much smaller form. 🍻

Canada seeks to buy Long Range Precision Rockets (probably US MLRS or HIMARS)

Actually, the legislation is already there. There are only very minor legislative changes needed and those are not to make such units possible but simply to make the administration of efficient reserve service easier. The 1980s/90s air defence regiments were hybrid ones that worked as were the...

Canada seeks to buy Long Range Precision Rockets (probably US MLRS or HIMARS)

Sorry - I wrote this Sunday but forgot to post it. The Aussies have different outlooks. 4 Regt RAA is scheduled to become their K9 Regiment supporting their heavy brigade. There are 30 K9s being built. With the HIMATS purchase I expect that the 30 will be all they will have. Their regimental...

    Iran Super Thread- Merged

Interesting comparison. We're paying CAD 1.63 per litre which equates to USD 4.41 per US gallon. The worst we had here was CAD 1.75. 🀞

Gas went down a penny here. Big whoop. Seems the gas stations don't believe Trump either.

Why does Canada suck at telling its own stories

I have seen German TV shows and other than "Babylon Berlin" they've been kind of - meh - even the ones with nudity. 🍻

Why does Canada suck at telling its own stories

It's kind of strange actually because production budgets do not equate to good entertainment. I appreciate the point that the examples make but I'm starting to look at my own viewing habits. I tend to look at my own ones these days and find that I get much better programming through streaming...

Why does Canada suck at telling its own stories

We give the CBC enough money. Unfortunatley they spend it on other things. OTOH: private equity, tax credits, Telefilm financing, funding from the Wounded Warriors charity and a healthy advance on international sales, funded this Alberta helped to fund this one: CBC gets 1.38 Billion - you'd...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

It can be done. Periodically the US Congressional Budget Office puts our figures on the US armed forces. Here's an extract from the latest (2021) version. Surface CombatantTotal Direct Indirect Overhead Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer (DDG-51) Military Personnel per Unit 710...

Why does Canada suck at telling its own stories

IMHO, that's not it. The vast majority of people these days are just not interested in reading those stories. They just want to be entertained in as simple and unchallenging a way as possible. Add in interpersonal relationships through social media and short attention spans and you have a...

    Canada's strategic airlift capability megathread (CC177, CC130J, A400M?)

Here are the basic specs - in addition to what's listed by the replies above is the range. I favour the A400 over the C130 for strategic lift (mostly because we can't get more C-17s). I think we have, and should keep, enough C-130s for tactical lift. 🍻

Canada seeks to buy Long Range Precision Rockets (probably US MLRS or HIMARS)

I think two HIMARS fd regiments as a minimum would be required based at one for the homeland (one battery east coast, one west coast and one centre for northern HIRAIN deployments. Other than that one regiment for the fires brigade for the manoeuvre division (which also have two or three SP fd...

Canada seeks to buy Long Range Precision Rockets (probably US MLRS or HIMARS)

The concept of using National Guard troops in training for HIRAIN missions is not new and is a viable concept for the C-130, the C-17 and even with the A400 (in that case with an active force battery from Germany to Lativia.) As can be expected from me, it again raises the question of why the...

Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle - RG-31, LAV Coyote, and (partial) G-Wagon Replacement

The RG 31 was bought on a UOR. The purpose of the TAPV program was to build programmed, in-service mine resistant patrol vehicles primarily for use with the light battalions and recce. It was part of the Family of Future Combat Vehicles initiated by Leslie in around 2007 concurrent with the...

    Funny Pix & Video Thread

This is why I stopped voting CPC - they don't even know what a recession is or what causes it. But that aside, the better opinion is that Canada isn't in one. Fearmongering seems to have become the party's only communication program. πŸ™

    Canada's strategic airlift capability megathread (CC177, CC130J, A400M?)

5,069 is enough for even one of our currently fat brigade groups. Once the army slims down under CAMO, the brigades will be just slightly over 3,100. Throw in an artillery regiment at 600 and subtract what should be the C2 and maintenance group in theatre already and you probably have to move...

    Canada's strategic airlift capability megathread (CC177, CC130J, A400M?)

Rumsfeld paraphrased – β€œYou go to war with the Army (and Air Force) you have, not the Army (or Air Force) you might want or wish to have at a later time” I know the CC330s are mostly thought of in their tanker role, but they can haul and awful lot of passengers at one go. The air force we...

    Canada's strategic airlift capability megathread (CC177, CC130J, A400M?)

Yeah. My last exercise before leaving the RegF (3 RCHA) for the ARes (QOCH - then legal) was RV 81 in Gagetown. From a gunner point of view it was a good get together - workup training into "fire missions division." :giggle: Prior to that we did annual 1 CBG WainCons in Wainwright. By then 3...
