    Political impacts of Ukraine war

It's hard to burn cities unless you have forces on a WW II scale, which is not an immediate prospect for either side. Vital infrastructure is what you attack unless you have a massive munitions delivery capability. Ukraine's campaign against exquisite Russian targets is about the only way out...

    Littoral Operations

All this stuff is fine for raiding, if that's all that's required. For presence, a surprising amount of less glamourous defence and engineering units are required along with the necessary naval tail, especially if you can't keep a couple of CVs on station.

Too bad demonstration sports have been suspended. A window of opportunity for MMA, lost.

    Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

Not yet. A certain amount of obfuscation is always to be expected. I've yet to be surprised, even by governments run by people I vastly preferred over alternatives.

People can probably put away their fantasies about McConnell. Scott Jennings has reported talking with Mitch at length this morning. See here.

US government politicians, like US government employees, have health care provided by their "employer". Not really the same thing as socialized medical care.

    A Deeply Fractured US

Democrats melting down over Graham Platner after making excuses for every flaw that turned up is just chef's kiss this week. Apparently when it comes to accusations of rape, the difference between credible/unacceptable and not-credible/ignorable is the accuser's politics. All that stuff that...

Or you could just be wrong. I suppose there won't be any resolution one way or the other, but for people who like to spend their time in bad humour, Trump delivers again. If the US isn't going to investigate its senior politicians when they do improbably well speculating, shrug.

    Trump administration 2024-2028

[Add: fine, but your beef is with the article author(s).] I'm not saying all is well. I'm saying none of us know what the situation is. As I say, some could (should) investigate. If there are no investigations, observers can chalk it up to conspiracies to hide crimes, or insufficient...

"...his investment advisers made more than 21,000 securities trades" "...Trump's investment advisers have also carried out more trades than prior years" Seeing a pattern there. "Trump" is not executing the trades. On to what might be a concern: "While the trades overall suggest Trump's...

    Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

What "say" is it you think they should have that they don't? Modern corporate etc. is a major driver of the economy, period. Stratification is mainly a result of people with high-value skills getting what they can. The top 1% isn't the problem; the top 25% is. Yeah, that might happen. A lot...

Do you have any understanding at all of what corporations really do with respect to pooling investment and resources to undertake complex endeavours?

Ordinary people, then. Owners/shareholders, employees, and consumers. Corporations enable specialization; specialization promotes productivity; productivity promotes prosperity; prosperity promotes well-being.

Other way around. Couples started having fewer children (some childless), and had more money to spend bidding up the prices of other things, like housing. Relative to almost everything else, an hour's wage typically allows more consumption than at any point in prior human history.

A thing about Christians like the Westboro Baptists is that they occur in such tiny, tiny numbers.

Sure, calls for equal application of principles is deflection. So we've got a family making money with appearances of impropriety. Next thing you know there'll be blanket presidential pardons for family members. The Biden administration was a real gift to the Trump administration. Yeah...

Well, all you need is to rule out all the mundane Occam's Razor explanations and you might have a juicy theory. Go for it.

Those are questions that could be answered by an investigation, surely? Given the right conditions, a set of limit orders could generate a lot of trades. All you'd need are a "buy" and "sell" order close together and a jittery stock price ranging between the two.

    Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

Sure. Where will the line be drawn? Is it a discretionary power to be left in the hands of politicians, or of civil servants who might not be politically impartial?
