Join the Army Now or Stay in University and Join After?

Depending on what your taking, you may be able to get the military to cover the cost. Good luck.

Measuring Physical Fitness (Split: CF weighs releasing combat wounded soldiers)

I think you are making some fundamental errors in your thinking. 1) How is the CoC supposed to determine if someone is fit or not without an evaluation.  Do they look at their appearance and determine it?  Do they watch them playing ball hockey and determine from that that a mbr is unfit? Or do...

    Training the core

Look at it this way: If one can't even get their own upper body weight up 19 time, there is a good chance they wouldn't last long in CDN Aviators job.

Measuring Physical Fitness (Split: CF weighs releasing combat wounded soldiers)

I'm hoping I can clear up some myth here: 1) The EXPRES test as we know it (20 MSR, handgrip, push-up, sit-up) is not actually a BFOR.  It is however a predictor of universal CF test known as the "Common Military Task Fitness Evaluation (CMTFE)"...

    Interesting Article about Army Strength

Given some of the comments here i would like to give some insight. 1)  Beginning in 2011 the CF will be implementing a new training method known as "Tactical Athlete Training" (Formerly given the name Combat Fitness Conditioning).  This training method has its routes in Crossfit, but has been...

    Training the core

Just to clarify a few things: 1) A sit-up is not primarily a core/ab exercise.  It primarily targets the hip flexors with the abs as a secondary mover. (You may recall the feeling in your legs during the EXPRES test sit-ups) 2) Yes it is true that there are very few jobs where someone does the...

Training Question - Ranger Crse Prep

This might help a bit: The Ranger Assessment Phase at Camp Rogers has traditionally included:[3] Ranger Physical Fitness Test (RPFT) requiring the following minimums: -Push-ups: 49 (in 2 minutes) -Sit-ups: 59 -2-mile run: 15:12 (no longer conducted as of 2010) -Chin-ups: 6 5 mile individual...

    Training the core

I can't say they're phasing them out.  Many physical tests are designed to mimic conditions and tasks of a particular job, and although sit-ups have the potential to cause injury down the road, they are still necessary fr some jobs.  I will tell you that the PSP Research and Development section...

    Training the core

This is an interesting topic for the CF.  For those concerned CF members, PSP fitness staff are working on this very topic under the direction of Physiotherapist Eric Robataille (located LFCA TC Meaford).  Currently all PSP Fitness Intructors and Basic Fitness Training Assistance (BFTA's) have a...

The War of 1812 Merged Thread

I don't know if this has been posted before, but I saw it and thought many would be entertained by it.  "The First Invasion" is a highly Americanized account of the War of 1812, where they are portrayed and they are portrayed as the innocent victims and underdog nation.  I'll leave it at that...

    Runners knees

Runners knee, jumpers knee, pfps, and Iliotibial Band friction syndrome are all chronic (overuse) knee injuries.  They are generally caused by a training stimulus that outweighs the recovery.  Muscle imbalances and over tight muscle predipose individuals to the previously mentioned conditions. ...

Saving the shins/lower back on ruck marches

Thorbahn, Check pages 29-30 of the CTS ruck manual for suggestions on how to pack the ruck.  Load distribution is a major factor. http://canadianmilitaryandefence.blogspot.com/2010/10/clothe-soldier-rucksack.html For your low back, I would strongly suggest taking some extra time and...

Want to join the army this summer.

You should get down to the recruit centre and get the ball rolling.  Regardless of the direction you go, it takes a long time to go through the process.  Keep your eye open around April 1st 2011 as that is when the CF announces its needs.

Pushups- Try Reading Here First- Merged Thread

There is nothing the tester can do to accommodate you for the push ups.  They are trained not to change protocols for any reason.  the only solution would be to speak to the MO and get a medical chit for the issue.  It is possible to be medically exempt from a component for a given fiscal year.

Fitness for Operational Requirements of CAF Employment ( FORCE )

If you don't make your minimum standard, you aren't necessarily sent home.  You will be placed on Warrior Platoon for up to 90 days to get into shape for your test.  Warrior Platoon is basically no stop PT to get you into military shape and able to pass you test.

    Step Test Super Thread

bpayne, The "mCAFT" step test is a sub-maximal test that indirectly evaluates your aerobic fitness based off of your heart rate response to increasingly difficult exercise.  Scientific research has shown that your heart rate response increase in a linear fashion  intensity does.  That is the...
