Where do I pick up training gears?

I hope you are no longer on that TCat or you would be crazy to train for the Ironman like that.  Keep in mind that the Ironman weight is only 40lbs

    FULL Time Or Reserve

I would recommend monitoring the reserve employment opportunities website.  It gives you an idea of what is out there and perhaps what you need to get there. http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/reo-oer/

p90x to make BMQ PT a bit easier. Good/Bad Idea.

Kratos, Below is just one example (of many) of evidence that is contrary to what you re saying.  I'm not necessarily saying you are wrong, I'm just saying human physiology is not always Black and White. "Am J Physiol Regul Integr Comp Physiol 278: R1282-R1288, 2000; 0363-6119/00 Articles by...

The Mountain and Ironman Merged Thread

I've been monitoring ArmyNews and The Mapleleaf.  Nothing yet... I'm not in Pet so I'll have to determine a contact at Base imagining I guess.  Where is base Imaging located?

The Mountain and Ironman Merged Thread

During the 16 Sep 10 Ironman Competition I noticed there were a number of uniformed paparazzi out on the course snapping shots of everyone.  I was wondering if anyone out there had any links to albums from that race or contacts of individuals that have photos from the race. Any help would be...

    Commonwealth Apps

DukesMW, I would certainly speak with a recruiter.  The recruiters on Forces.ca are at the CF Recruiting Group HQ in Borden and are very knowledgeable.  They can give you a better whole picture response vs a local recruiter who may not have as much info outside their area.

    Current stats/goals

Minimum standard for Push-ups is 19, so I would say your goal exceptional.  Heavy squats and deadlifting is not evaluated in the CF.  I would recommend some cardiovascular training.  The only mbrs I've seen hit 75 push-ups are highly successful JTF2 applicants.

I would second this coop option.  It gives you a taste of what to expect and you get paid a bit of cash.  Thats a step up from any other high school placement in Ontario.

p90x to make BMQ PT a bit easier. Good/Bad Idea.

Well this thread really got out of control fast. Searyn, As a fitness staff for the CF, I can tell you that there is nothing wrong with P90X to get your body going for BMQ.  It is much better than nothing.  P90X focuses mostly on the aerobic and muscular endurance components of fitness.  Lucky...

    The Defence Budget [superthread]

I agree with you 100%.  A military should always have the capability to challenge any perceived threats.  I do, however, believe that current situations and those in the foreseeable future should play a major role in resource allocation.  Otherwise you spread too thin.

    The Defence Budget [superthread]

Has anyone seen the latest precedent set for Defence Budgets?  The British government is planning MASSIVE cuts to their military (see link below).  Apparently it is there answer to a large national debt.  I hope Canada doesn't follow the footsteps of our friends across the pond.  I did, however...

Subsidized Education for Entry Level Masters in Physiotherapy

As always, your best to contact your local recruit centre for the most up to date info.  I checked a year ago and that info was still valid.

    Canadian Military Films

I am currently compiling a collection of Military/War films (see link) http://canadianmilitaryandefence.blogspot.com/p/military-films-and-documentaries.html If anyone can pass on some movie titles with uniquely Canadian military content it would be greatly appreciated.  The films could be set...

    Airborne Operations

My initial question was focused on the relevance on static line jumping.  In my mind, I would think it is more relevant and a better use of resources to train troops on High Altitude jumping vs the static line jump. Your thoughts?

    Airborne Operations

I'm asking this question just to get some outside feedback.  In the modern battlefield, tactically how relevant is static line jumping?  Does the CF ever use it outside of training?  When was the last time the CF static line dropped soldiers into battle?

Frodo, Check the links below.  They direct you to the Army Fitness Manual.  It has a 12 week program that is designed to get you into army shape.  The other link is the CSOR Pre-Selection Training Manual.  It is another 12 week program designed to get you ready for the Canadian Special...

    Current stats/goals

Frodo, Take a look at the latest official document on the Canadian Forces EXPRES test. http://canadianmilitaryandefence.blogspot.com/2010/09/canadian-forces-expres-operations.html This test you MUST pass at some point during basic.  Ensure these test protocols are not a problem for you.

Why Not Canadian Amphib/Marine Capability? (merged)

Drumming up support for the Canadian Forces is definitely the key filling the gaps in Canadian capabilities.  The publics perception of the military is generally very different then it is.  I know mine preconceived thoughts on the CF changed rastically after I became involved
