    Frequency, duration & diet

I recognize where this information from me is coming from, but you must question how reliable those on a forum are.  Many who train consider themselves experts in training.  Listen to your body.  If training makes you sick or causes injury, then you may need t re-evaluate.  There is no formula...

    10-50-90 (Adult Learning)

It is an unfortunate reality.  I agree with you though.  If you are in a position to lead and instruct, then it should be required to learn HOW that task can and should be done.

    10-50-90 (Adult Learning)

It would hard to validate those specific numbers as I belief it would depend on the type of learning (Verbal, visual, kinesthetic, ect) you are dealing with.  But certainly the general idea that those numbers represent holds true. If all training was conducted like it is on NS's ship, the...

Why Not Canadian Amphib/Marine Capability? (merged)

I think it is safe to say that a Canadian "Force" mirror around that of the USMC would be far beyond Canadian resources and needs.  I think it is also pretty safe to say that a small specialized marine force that is uniquely Canadian is something the CF could benefit from having (Keeping in mind...

I want to join the Air Force (23 years old)

If a pilot is what you really want to be then 3 yrs is not a long time, especially at your age.  If you start now, you'll be ready to go in a sexy new CF-35. Just a thought...

Why Not Canadian Amphib/Marine Capability? (merged)

I agree 100% with you on this.  I believe the CF should adapt a model like that. To the comment about 100,000 Canadian troops.  that number comes out of the Canada First Defence Strategy.  The goal of the strategy is projected to be 70,000 Reg and 30,000 Res by 2030.

Why Not Canadian Amphib/Marine Capability? (merged)

I'm not sure what you are trying to say about Extreme Winter Survival vs Winter Survival???  That sound like a different topic. I would agree with you in that it is expensive and time consuming to train fighting units to fight in all environments.  Once members are fully trained, they are a...

Why Not Canadian Amphib/Marine Capability? (merged)

I'm not suggesting Canada should attack its own coastline/islands.  I'm just saying our forces should be able to operate anywhere on our soil.  I agree with ArmyRick, we don't need a dedicated Corps.  A corps is too big and that would be beyond any perceived need.  However, owning some resources...

Why Not Canadian Amphib/Marine Capability? (merged)

A pondered a similar concept.  It seems like Canadian SF are depended on for a multitude of roles.  Lets just hope they are not in demand in several rolls at once.  I could foresee CANSOFCOM being overstretched quite quickly.

Why Not Canadian Amphib/Marine Capability? (merged)

I would think so.  Given the amount of coastline, number of islands, and prevalence on inland waterways that could potentially demand a specialized amphibious capability.  I watched a tv show about the Vandoo's training with the USMC to practice amphibious assaults (using US vessels).  If they...

Why Not Canadian Amphib/Marine Capability? (merged)

Yes it should have been without a marine force

Why Not Canadian Amphib/Marine Capability? (merged)

Can anyone speculate as to why Canada is with a specialized Marine Force like the Royal Marines or USMC. I think it is unfortunate that the CF must borrow equipment, facilities, and trainers from the US Marines to practice amphibious assaults.

    The Defence Budget [superthread]

That is true.  I can't imagine this will change any time soon.  I would say their pay is well earned for most

    The Defence Budget [superthread]

So you're suggesting if we close down a few HQ's then more troops could be hired and a more weapons purchased?

    The Defence Budget [superthread]

I find it very interesting the Canada's defence budget is ranked somewhere between 10th and 15th in the world (depending on source), yet are ranked around 60th in the world for the number of personnel. How do we have such a large budget, yet such a small arsenal and relatively small number of...

Rucking with a heavy load and the new rucksack

Grimaldus, A major issue is how you pack your rucksack.  You want everything the be distributed as evenly as possible with heavy items closer to the body. Go to the link below for the Clothe the Soldier Rucksack user guide. Pages 29 on highlight what I'm speaking of...

Military Swim Test - When, Where, and How- Merged

There are 3 official swim tests done by the CF.  1) The Basic Military Swim Standard, which is required to work on or around water. http://canadianmilitaryandefence.blogspot.com/2010/09/basic-military-swim-standard-bmss-test.html 2) The Combat Swim Test, which is part of the CSOR Applicant...

    Lung conditioning.

Final, It sounds like your in order to join if your tests came out negative.  I would keep training.  Asthma is an interesting condition.  The key is determining the trigger for it.  Whether it is a pollen, animal, mould, dust, or whatever. Earlier this summer I couldn't jog 3K during morning...

    Army Fitness Test

I believe we shifted a bit there to talk about increasing minimum standards.  I used the EXPRES as a real life example to support that idea. George Wallace,  The Cooper Test is still used in CSOR and JTF2 selection.  A modified version is used in SarTech Seletion.
