Good to hear the CPF’s are still in demand as a sub hunting platform. I often wondered how effective the still are, given their age and when they were designed.
So, that means if a KINGSTON replacement was to be done, it would either have to be under 1000t, wait until SS or Irv can get to it, go offshore or force the NSPS to change its policy. Not a lot of satisfactory options there…
Given the pressure on Canada’s shipyards and the tonnage limits in the NSPS, maybe that KINGSTON RFI gets put further afield and HHI (who has a large number of OPV’s/corvettes in their portfolio) gets a chance to bid too, if even just the hull and the rest gets fitted out here. It would be nice...
That brings up something I’ve wondered for some time. When an RCN ship is supporting a USCG LEDET in an OP CARIBBE, are there any situations where the RCN takes responsibility/authority on their own, rather than the USCG? I’m unsure of the protocol of who is responsible for what in these...
Strange question, that I’ll stipulate right away is probably a no go for any number of reasons, but is there any situation where a CCG vessel could do an MCDV style task, like OP CARIBBE, for example? I know there’s no enforcement authority given to CCG personnel, but that aspect of the gig...
I remember the first time I took my kids to see an RCN ship at Queen’s Quay. There were 2 MCDV’s there, KINGSTON and GOOSE BAY. Like your experience, there was a considerable line that formed to take the tour. Luckily, we were pretty close to the front and as such didn’t have to wait as long. We...
The overall height of the vessel was one of the most striking features. I was trying to gauge how far above the waterline the bridge was, by looking at the RHIB ferrying passengers around her. I’m guessing over 40 feet, but that’s kind of rough given how far away I was.
Was pretty excited to get a chance to see HARRY with my own eyes today. Sure looked awesome anchored off Kingston with Fort Henry in the background and I got a few shots from the Fort grounds themselves .The closer picture was from the Wolfe Island Ferry. I was pleased to see the amount of...
I agree, but I’m wondering if it’s worthwhile to only concentrate on, say, the two that are in the best shape in order to keep the costs down somewhat. Also, is it possible to embed RCN submariners in other Allied navies in order to keep those skills sharp, if our boats aren’t really available...
