I've been watching this thread with interest as a former ground pounder and now as someone who works the 24 hr shift. To be honest, I'm too baffled by the regulations quoted here to debate the meaning and intent of the CF Leave Manual, hell I rarely paid attention to it when I was in! But I...

He must be finishing his first tour as a troop/platoon commander ;)

Heyzeus H Chrisco..........there is being anal and then there is this. Maybe I was a terrible SNCO but to me, a prohibition was for something that would risk lives...and securing your poppy in the run up to remembrance day didn't exactly fit that category. As long as troops had one I was cool...

Hear hear. Rememberance Day for me is to remember, as I do every waking hour of each day, those who I last saw as a body bag on an angel flight, due to op tempo I couldn't go back for ramp ceremonies etc... That is it. I don't care about free meals, civvies buying me drinks in the pub, I don't...

I've watched the growth of MFT via a couple of buddies who partake in the herb. Anecdotally....I can't say I've seen tidal change in their PTSD, the weed seems to alleviate symptoms but those I know who are MFT clients are almost 100% now seemingly stuck in the 'broken vet-medical marijuana...

HII (or HIM or whatever it is called now), BMO/CTI/AMO, TQ (if they still run those), TCCC, we've also sent guys on Pathfinder as well. Saying that, those are what is available to Reg Force Cbt Engrs, it is most likely MUCH harder for Reservists, but when I did my HII we had 1 or two reservist...

*spoiler alert* I get your point but at the same time, I think he could have made a still-entertaining-yet-historically&factually-accurate movie. I mean, the one scene at the beginning where the sniper det shoots the IED (when did 66 C/S start using ANA CIED TTP's????) and all of a sudden 40...

Yes and no. It is recognised as 'nice to have', and no it does not confer spec pay. In fact were you to join the engineers, you would still most likely be required to attend the Hvy Eqpt Op course in Gagetown, in order to become fully trained on CF equipment and also some military specific tasks...

I'm trying to watch it now.....I'm sorry but it's terrible...

D&B you reminded me of the SLE (Spearhead Land Element), a rotational task for a Light battalion BG for 6 months at 48hrs NTM anywhere in the world. Best bit of the workup? The final confirmation ex, where you manifested EVERYTHING you would take on a deployment (and for an engr sqn this was...

JM - PM sent, but for the benefit of others, I'll say here that it was from a source that would have every reason to be credible....that being said, I should have qualified my initial comment with 'allegedly' ;)

The title of this post is reminiscent of that soviet plan to put giant mirrors in space so the workers could produce goods for the revolution 24 hours a day. No no no, it's not a James Bond plot....this actually happened.... http://motherboard.vice.com/read/the-man-who-turned-night-into-day

I'll be that guy.... I'll go back down that rabbit hole (sorry George, but I will try and frame it in relation to engineers and airborne engineers specifically) I know that an airborne insertion was at one time considered for an op in Afghanistan, somewhere between 2007-2009, but the limiting...

Good point. I might, for devilments sake, write said letter (2 pages at least) with annexes and appendixes and references, and address it to the nearest officer commanding a command, just to see how long, and what response, I actually get, to 'Sgt (Ret'd) TTG Request For Permission To Wear Musty...

My point exactly. Why not amend the QR&O to delete that para, if it's not being observed anyways.

I spent the last tour eating either the lightweight combat recce rations or traded/bought/stolen MRE's. Got awfully sick of IMP's after a few weeks.

Of course, that is the book answer. However, that being said, what is to stop said former member from donning his former headdress? What exact law would we be breaking, moreover who would enforce said QR&O? I'll quantify this by saying I have absolutely no intention of digging out musty...

Dollars to donuts the RSM will say 'What the f**k are you asking me for? They can wear a soup can on their head if they bloody well want to'

Gets my vote as well. With perhaps an option to 'buy back' said time if you happen to have kept ahold/invested the lump sum (ha I know right!) and therefore start the pension payments sooner.

I don't know what process they go through in Ottawa to confirm such things. He had a number of CF98's with 'injuries were a result of hostile action in a Special Duty Area' and witness statements declaring 'Spr XX was xx ft from the blast seat as the IED went off'. As far as I know there were...
