Looks like a Japanese Coast Guard vessel. Don't know the class...

Agreed. You never know when or where someone will ask for a criminal check. Lots of jobs and volunteer positions require a record check now, esp if there's kids involved. Wanna be a coach at your kids little league team? You may need to pass a records check soon. And of course you never know...

Got to say the original article is great. Kudos to everyone who serves, and is doing the hard thing oversea's. Good show, everyone. I wonder if the comments about training exceeding WW2 commando training are true? My dad fought with 1 Can Para Bn when that was considered ultra-hard cutting...

My bad, I didn't know they were only in a couple of provinces.

Give  PCFinancial insurance a try. I've had State Farm, Cooperators, Royal Insurance in the past, PC gave me a good price. Worth looking at. http://www.pcinsurance.ca/ROCEN/

Ha! That brings back memories. Like you, when younger I never got sick at all. (I was in Algonquin and Assiniboine.)  I was a smug SOB when guys went green and hurled all over the place. I was cocky and proud of my stout constitution. After several years on the hard, I started rec sailing...

To be fair, I didn't see Blair say no, just that the priority of the TPS is face to face policing. He hadn't seen the proposal yet, either. I think it would be a valuable asset, but then again I'm not a policing expert. I do know that T.O has one of the lowest crime rates (that's including the...

I think this ad is a step in the right direction. Finally, there is recognition that there are modern veterans. I have utmost respect for those who served in the big wars and they deserve all the accolades we can give them. However, I truly think the post Korea vets of various stripes have gone...

Wow. (warning, sarcasm follows) I learned a lot from your post.  There are things about myself I never really acknowledged before.  For instance 1. I'm not as deserving as decent folk.  You see I was born into poverty stricken mixed-race family and didn't realize all of the advantages and...

Not what I was told, so I'm going to suggest that each CFRC may be treating this a bit differently. When I asked at CFRC Toronto if they'd consider a review earlier then 6 months (for LASIK) I was told no. So if anyone is considering surgery, be sure to check with your CFRC.

I have to ask...does this mean you ended up without any income for that period? That sucks. And I think that's worth sending a letter to your MP and the MND about. Good example of the need for job security. You shouldn't have to work for free because your employer grabs your Res pay as a penalty.

As you may know, it's not a pardon, which is an absolution for a conviction. You can't get a conviction purged, only pardoned. But a charge without a conviction can be purged, which is the process of removing the records. This process takes time - 1 or 2 years. You can do it yourself, but you...

Agreed. And as you will note, I did not say there was no problem, nor did I say what you put in quotes, if that was directed at me. My point is not to buy into the media-driven "chicken little" phenomenon. Rather, let's stay real and take appropriate action - and action needs to be taken. I...

Not 100% sure what you are saying here...nonetheless, as disturbing as the gang stuff is and the outbreak of gun violence, the truth is Toronto's homicide rate is NOT increasing. We are at about the same level as prior years right now. It is in fact far safer then Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary...

Here's a link to a post that has specs for visual acuity. http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/31590/post-233463.html#msg233463 6/120 is V4 under the revised standards. You need 6/60 or better to be V3. I know there are some variables that will modify this but I have no idea how that works...

The CFRC told me if I failed they would rebook me a month later. And you have to pay about $30 for the re-test. There's other posts about this on the recruiting forum somewhere.

We do. A study sample of the citizenship test is here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizen/look/look-21e.html I remember a couple of years ago a paper (can't remember which one, or when) did an aticle reporting that most high school students they surveyed couldn't pass the citizenship test. Sad.

Does this somehow benefit the CF? Except for the $5 fee, this is pretty much identical to the President's Choice free banking right down to the same interest rates and ATM's. Same people offering it too, it's a subsidiary of the CIBC. Although I like the idea of CF friendly services, I don't...

Ah, I get your meaning now. Right, and thus the differences in the training formats. Okay.

I'm thinking this may be in the wrong forum, perhaps Military History or Radio chatter would have been better. Sorry mods!
