OP Connection Vancouver - Canada Day

Make that two. It looked like a good display. Good job to all involved and to all CF who were (and are) in the area.

Cpl Michael Spence - Now in Recovery

Thanks for the inspiration. You are exactly that to me. Hope things continue to go well for you.

"Tunes of Glory" on Turner Classic Movies, Jan. 28, 2000 ET

Stumbled on it flipping channels without reading this post first. A good movie. Never heard of it before.

    Thanks Cops, for nothing

Great letter. There has been way too much police bashing and particularly RCMP bashing by the media and public lately. This was a breath of fresh air.

    Favourite War Movies

I wanted to like 9th Company but thought it was horrible. To be fair though I think I just couldn't get past the catastrophic dubbing. It was the same voice for every character practically. It was like someone making fun of the dubbing on a Kung Fu movie from the '70's. Maybe if I watched it in...

    Storming Juno-Docudrama

    It was actually pretty good!

    Storming Juno-Docudrama

Looks like it might not be bad. I don't imagine they had much of a budget to work with but it's good that someone is trying to tell Canadian stories. My grandfather landed with the Regina Rifles on D-day, so for me it's got even more interest. I'll be watching.

    Balancing CBSA and Reserves

This is for any Border Services Officers out there also serving in the Reserves (particularly those doing shift work at a land border). I currently do not work shift work, but have been a BSO for a couple years now and am interested in transferring to a Land Border. At the same time, I also...

The Pacific - New HBO Series

I think the Peleliu episodes were excellent. Though the series has its weaknesses it's worth seeing even just for those episodes. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

    An end to our games

I live in a suburb outside of Vancouver with a small-town feeling. The streets erupted after Canada won the hockey game. People carrying flags and cheering everywhere. Cars were backed up down the main street with horns constantly honking in celebration. It was a spontaneous display of Canadian...

Today In Military History - Moyland Wood 18 Feb 45

Reading this thread I noticed one of the pictures posted showed an elderly veteran with a bandage on his face. I was curious and googled his name: Harold Prout. You don't get any more heroic than that man in my opinion...

Supp. List Change of Address Requirement

This relates to recruiting in that it may affect the ease of some peoples' re-joining the CF. Hopefully this has not been posted before: A few years back I transferred to the Supplementary Reserves from the Primary Reserve. I understand that I am required to inform someone if my address has...

    Rotation of units through 2011?

I apologize if this is in the wrong place and/or a waste of time for you guys, but I can't find the answer to this after some searching and thought others might be curious. I was wondering if it is public knowledge yet what the rotation of units will be to Afghanistan through 2011 (the supposed...

Australian Afghanistan role hinges on Dutch

Before we jump on Holland, don't forget that if Dion and Layton have their way, we'll be just like them. Most of NATO appears to be headed in that direction, with the exception of Britain and the US. Disgraceful. I hope Holland and Canada stay, and other NATO partners start getting into the...

I join Reg Force, Wife stays home

True enough. I hadn't thought of it that way. I agree she's definitely a keeper. Thanks for saying so. I've tried to figure out the Colonel reference though, but have as yet been unsuccessful. It could mean my wife is the Colonel and I am the Pte in our marriage, but that would be dead...

I join Reg Force, Wife stays home

I toyed with that idea but doubt it would work for two reasons: 1) I like being an NCM because it's more hands on, which is what I'm looking for. 2) I don't think I should ask the CF to make the investment of training me to be an officer (which I'm assuming is more of an investment in money than...

I join Reg Force, Wife stays home

Thanks Kincanucks. No, I'd never ask to be on IR, given my situation. It's obviously my own decision, not one forced on me, so I wouldn't expect anything like that. We've worked out the details financially. My going away would actually mean spending less money than if we still lived together...

I join Reg Force, Wife stays home

What is IR? I'm not sure what it means, though I've seen it used before. Remember, I was just a reserve Pte.  ;D Seriously, I definitely don't expect any special treatment because of this. I know what I'm getting into and accept it gladly. I'm not the snivelling type.

I join Reg Force, Wife stays home

I have searched but haven't found any similar topics to this one. But feel free to lock it if it has been covered elsewhere or comes across as another self-indulgent "look at me" topic. Background: I am from BC and will be joining the infantry fairly soon. As a former reserve member, I've been...
