I found the discussion about ROE and the Navy's role inside territorial water interesting, but missing one serious aspect.
During any scenario with the navy providing force protection and security for an event, there is most likely a Memorandom of understanding between RCMP, Solicitor General...
I agree the VADS and PIVADs don't hold a candle to he Phalanx or any other CIWIS, but it is interesting to see the 20mm vulcan continue on in a new weapons system.
On another note related to the thread, I've read that the PIVADs was also used in an infantry support role.
The Idea of putting a CIWIS on a truck reminds me of the M-163 PIVADS weapons sytem the americans retired a while back. It worked well, but it used an optical sight. It was a vulcan cannon mounted on a M-113 or a trailer.

I just wanted to add some info regarding St. Jean vs Workpoint.
I did BOTC1 in St Jean and BOTC2 in Esquimalt.
Esquimalt has a nicer climate, there are more IT resources in esquimalt, the workpoint barracks are the same age as St. Jean.
I found St. Jean to be better organised and the staff...
I have considered it. I am planning to apply when I complete FNO. I've met several people who've gone to Yugoslavia and Afghan with the HUMINT teams, they say it's a good tour-- hard work.
Have you done it? What have you heard?
I just wanted to add something to what Ex- Dragoon said. It's probably the most interesting secondary duty. It requires a lot of work, but it is rewarding.
However, if you're trying to decide between the Navy and the Army. NBP is nothing like being in the infantry. You stand a better chance of...
NBP teams still exist on MCDVs, but there are teething problems. The high crew turnover makes it difficult to maintain a team. My ship managed to keep our team current and qualified for one year-- 2003--2004. There are still active teams in the MCDVs.
Have we boarded anything-- not that I know...
