Hearing talk that Salt and Peppers are leaving too

I was at an interdepartmental meeting in Ottawa just last week. Suits, ties, DEUs, and the one "operational" guy in fairly greasy looking, greenish NCDs. Bring on the future, I say.

Hearing talk that Salt and Peppers are leaving too

I just looked it up. The OPI is listed as VCDS, the title is "CANFORGEN 198/09 VCDS 031 191500Z NOV 09", and what I posted above was the last thing it says. That said, I have no doubt that Comd RCN (CMS I guess in 2009) was the driving force behind the direction, with VCDS signing so that it...

Hearing talk that Salt and Peppers are leaving too

This was ordered via VCDS CANFORGEN in 2009: "ACCORDINGLY, CF MEMBERS ENTITLED TO THE NAVAL DISTINCTIVE ENVIRONMENTAL UNIFORM (DEU) ARE HEREBY DIRECTED TO WEAR NAVAL COMBAT DRESS (NCD) IN LIEU OF CADPAT, WHERE THE CADPAT IS PERMITTED BY COMDS AND CO S AS THE DRESS OF THE DAY. EXCEPTIONS TO THIS...

Hearing talk that Salt and Peppers are leaving too

Yes, RCN personnel in RCAF/CA units where operational clothing is worn are to wear NCD. Something about protecting Naval identity. However, inside the RCN proper, DEU 3B (salt and pepper) is almost always dress of the day for PO2 and up. A dress policy change like the one being discussed here...

Hearing talk that Salt and Peppers are leaving too

I did an exchange with the RNZN for a while - in that Navy, the OOD (who was typically dressed in full uniform with jacket and tie) would head straight to a command position and make pipes. They described this to me as the "proper commonwealth way", and were quite surprised to hear that we did...

Hearing talk that Salt and Peppers are leaving too

As someone who's stood OOD in the past few months, I can confirm this. The only exception is in some foreign ports, where brow staff/OOD need to be in DEU. In that case, there's always a fully qualified and NCD-wearing 2/3 OOD standing by for DC. The only place I've seen the half-NCD half-DEU...

Voluntary Occupational Transfer ( VOT )

Hey guys - I'm on leave, but my boss just e-mailed me to say my OVOTP acceptance message just came in. Sounds like the messages are coming out now, at least for Officers. Best of luck to you all!

    Red Sea Rig for RCAF?

"Red Sea Rig" is technically the 2C order. It calls for elemental short-sleeved shirt (without pins/ribbons) and pants, shoes, and branch cummerbund. I think it states you should wear the same shoulder boards you'd wear in a white mess kit jacket, but "permits" you to wear slip-ons on the off...

CAF uniforms don't have sizes for fit guys

One of the featured RIMPAC images I saw today was of two officers (a Lt(N) and LCdr) touring the Battleship Missouri Memorial in NCD with ball cap. It's even getting to the Navy. That said, Logistik clothes are pretty terrible. I'm not even all that fit, and the shirts still billow off of me...

    Question about Navy mess kit

It's a smaller one, IIRC. Tailor shops sell them, or you can look at places like this - http://www.joedrouin.com/item.php?nbItemID=168&nbTypeItemID=55&nbCatID=9

    Question about Navy mess kit

In the black jacket, qualification badges are worn above the curl on the left sleeve, and medals are worn on the lapel. In the white jacket, a metal pin-on qual badge is pinned above the medals on the chest. I think there are diagrams in CFP 265. Either the white waistcoat or the black/branch...

    NCIOP to Information Management Director

An Information Management Director is a position in a ship. There are typically two - a Lt(N) MARS Officer and a PO1 NCI OP. To become the former, you require a degree, a BWK, NOPQ, and the IMD course. To become the latter, you're required to be a QL6B qualified NCI OP employed in the IMD position.

Postings, career managers and budget cuts!

I was replaced months ago. Same billet, only one of us required in a unit. I have yet to be posted. I've literally had no job for almost 4 months while they try to figure out a plan, and the more I look around, the more clear it becomes that I'm not alone. Me thinks it's already not pretty.

Can NCI Ops still become SACs?

Just NCI OPs now. Stopped being a MARS option a while back.

    Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP)-RMC 2000 - 2018 [Merged]

Completely uncalled for. I see a young future officer asking a simple question in the hopes of learning from the experience of those on this board. Throwing such hostile responses back at him is only going to ensure he doesn't return.  How asking a question on etiquette is indicative of a...

    Name Tapes

Not that I've seen.  I can't imagine anyone being required to provide documentation supporting something that's coming out of clothing stores, either.  Just walk around with a picture of someone important wearing them and bust it out if pressed. Here -...

    Name Tapes

New NCD nametapes from clothing stores are coming out with elemental symbols on them.  I've seen them around  - mostly on new OS, as well as on the CFCWO.  A new initiative to differentiate one's element in NCD, though I haven't seen a bird or swords yet.

For Sale - High Collar Whites

Hello All, I've got a HCW Tunic to get rid of.  It was bought at a NEX in the US, has the Canada shoulder titles on it, and has never actually been worn.  Size 38R.  No buttons, but clothing stores can take care of that for you. $100 if anyone's keen.

    Foreign Exchange programs??

I am currently on a six-month employment in NZ, and I know there are a number of NCMs down here as well.  It seems to be a rapidly-growing exchange program.

    sleeping...?

For Subbie MARS officers in my ship, 1 in 3 is the norm.  Good times are had by all.
