    Reserve Pension- Merged

As shocking as it may seem, when I was 16 when I joined my primary administrative task was not to horde my pay slips for 30 years to keenly position myself to prove my pay at the dawn of a new century. I smell a class action lawsuit depending on how they address the landslide of complaints over...

    Fort Henry Drill

I think I heard a dozen RSM's just pass out.  Sounds like a cool step. The Sneider certainly has a history and I kick myself for allowing a Strat Capt. "steal" one from under my nose as I was distracted on a saddle.  What a mistake as I find you can get a saddle much easier then one of these...

    Fort Henry Drill

I will smack myself for not searching before I posted that but that only answers half the question so I guess so far I can claim half my case of beer.  Did any unit that you guys know of in the 70s ever tour Canada doing this drill?

Is there Wireless Internet in Kandahar

I believe that the US firefighters have stable wireless service available based out of the firehall.  They sell access to the service if I remember correctly for a reasonable amount.  Not sure if it is still there but you could check that out.

    Fort Henry Drill

May have lost a 24 of beer on this one as I can not prove it, but does anyone remember a style of drill called Fort Henry Drill?  I am sure that some branch of the service was doing this in the 70's (likely as part of ceremonial duty).  I swear I saw units do it but can not remember where.  Any...

Afghanistan: Why we should be there (or not), how to conduct the mission (or not) & when to leave

I think one of the biggest hurtles we face in Afghanistan is the fact that Canadian accounting rules and code of fiscal responsibility has been applied to that theatre.  The rules need to be changed to allow for faster and more direct aide to get to the proper place fast.  I am hardly saying...

    Older Pams

many thanks a good start.  Yes I am donig the garage sale thing and used bookstores trying to find gems.  I was thinking of starting an online project to scan them and put them on the web for all to view but can not get  enough critical mass to make it viable at this point. Gratz for the info.

    Older Pams

Does anyone know if there is a central repository anywhere of old military pams with a searchable index?  I would love to get some reproductions of old field manuals etc and am having a devil of a time getting anything online and have not found any library caches yet. Anyone know of any good...

Extreme heat in army tanks endangers troops; forces use tank blanket to keep troops from baking

Big breath.  Wow, George I will not bother with a response on your interesting version to my comments and will move on old boy. I am still wondering how others feel about smaller number of higher quality vehicles or a larger number of vehicles that better respond to the support tail. As...

Extreme heat in army tanks endangers troops; forces use tank blanket to keep troops from baking

George, I must say you are completely incorrect in your statement: You are pretty much saying that we can take someone right off the street and give them a gun, put them on a plane and have them patrolling the Afghan countryside within 24 hours.  (I just exaggerated a little there, but you...

Extreme heat in army tanks endangers troops; forces use tank blanket to keep troops from baking

Reading what George had written, although it is not really the greatest option, the “train in the field” concept is a reality or close to reality I think. Arguably the most important piece of kit in our war zone, the Nyala has had most if not all its training done in the field. Many of our tanks...

Afghanistan: Why we should be there (or not), how to conduct the mission (or not) & when to leave

I am actually quite impressed with the recommendations.  They seem rather sound and sane and able to be implemented with a bit a work and faill in line with the Govt. approach actuall. This one gives me a bit of humour though: 6. the Government of Canada should announce that while it...
