A 36 years youngwoman and going for it

I joined at 42, finished BMQ(L) this summer at 43, and was awarded Top Candidate, go figure.  Hurray for the old folks!  40 is the new 20.

Soldier Qualification Course (Questions & Answers)

I'm currently nominated for BMQ(L) (PRes) for this June 2011, however, I'm getting pushback from my employer about taking 4 weeks off.  Has anyone heard whether there are weekend BMQ(L) (formerly SQ) courses planned for 2011 in LFCA?  This summer and/or fall? Thanks!

    Age Limits - Reserves

I'm 42 and just got sworn in last month to the army reserve.  If you want it, go for it, but be ready.

Seeking advice on a missing file

Just to close the thread; it turns out Canada Post lost my package in transit, go figure. I doubt that happens often.  The CFRC re-generated the file and it made it to the unit. Communication between the source and the destination was key.  I'm sworn in and happy to be aboard!  ;D

Seeking advice on a missing file

First off, I'd like to say thanks for allowing me to be a guest member of this site this year.  I have not posted much, but I have learned a lot from reading posts from members who generously contribute helpful information for people like me at one stage or another in the recruiting process.  I...

    HMCS Fredericton

There was not a Sea King on board in Toronto, at least the day I toured the ship.

    HMCS Fredericton

I took my son on Sept. 6th in Toronto.  There was a good turnout of visitors.  The crew was friendly and informative.  I was impressed with the array of weapon systems on board.  We were not allowed below deck, however, which was disappointing. But the bridge was very cool.  I suppose it must...

THE FIRST (& SECOND) WORLD WAR(S), BAR FIGHT VERSION

I came across this recently, a Facebook version of WWII.  Canada is not included, but I guess you can't expect much from 'a modern adaptation of world war II for the american teenager'  Sort of sad really... http://www.collegehumor.com/article:1802364

    Geomatics Technician (merged)

Hi Roachy, I'm curious about the Algonquin program as far as its curriculum. Can you tell me how much of the course is on general geomatics subjects versus the specific application of it within the CF?  I'm curious because I've got 10+ years civilian exp. in geomatics and I'm applying direct...

    Geomatics Technician (merged)

It is my understanding that there is such a thing as a Geomatics Officer, however, it is a specialization under the ENG O career path, and as far as I know, you cannot enter the CF under such a title. I don't know any details about the career progression if you already have geomatics experience...

NCM Subsidized Education Plan (NCM SEP)

On a related tangent to the original post, this is mainly directed to Otis, or anyone else in the know.  I'm curious about the details behind "...or all apprenticeship requirements in a civilian trade." If an applicant already is a civilian geomatics specialist, does that statement mean he...

    Well...I got the call.....

Ditto. Sickening actually, it bothered me the moment I read it.  I hope the recruiting process is 100% successful at weeding out this type of attitude.  Seems like its working in this case...

    Well...I got the call.....

As an officer candidate (DEO) myself, I really can't let this go.  I think your attitude toward leadership could very well have been your downfall.  I don't have any military experience yet, but I have tons in the civy world and I can tell you that in any context being a good leader is not about...

    Air Navigators

Please forgive my newbie question if this has been answered before on the forum.  I'm in the early phases of my DEO application, I've selected land-based trades since I'm mid-career, figure I'm likely too old to do aircrew.  But I've nothing to lose asking stupid questions; what, if any, age cap...

    CFAT cancelled Jan 13, 2010

I got the sense speaking to the staff on the phone that this came as a surprise to the recruiting centre.  It must have, they had launched a recruiting drive in early December, including postings on Workopolis.com, which are still active.  So I rationalize the life-altering decision to join the...

    CFAT cancelled Jan 13, 2010

Thanks for the response SB, that clarifies the sitution, nonetheless frustrating.  Typical of any government organization I guess.  I'll just be that much more prepared for April 1st!

    CFAT cancelled Jan 13, 2010

I was scheduled for my CFAT test on Jan 18th, and today I was called by my CFRC notifying me that the test has been cancelled for all non-RMC applicants, indefinitely, due to budget cutbacks.  They said maybe April it will be on.  Seems a little odd to me.  Anyone else had an upcoming test...
