    Transfer Value decimated

In hindsight we could've both refused to attest to vaccination and we would've got a nice chunk of change as we would've been out beginning of the year. So I guess we did had an option, albeit not known at that time :(

    Transfer Value decimated

Oh I absolutely realise that. I'm not insane to leave my pension to get 1500 + whatever index it is in 25 years from now. I'm just crushed that I saved about 40k in RRSP space thinking I'd cash out about 150k and now it's down to 25k. Problem is as time goes by, it can reach 0 at which point...

    Transfer Value decimated

How does pension buy back works? I take the TV now, and lets say I go crazy again and re-join in 5 years. I heard you have to option to pay like a few hundred bucks out of your pay for the next ?decades? to get back all your pension just like you wouldn't have taken the TV? Any difference...

    Transfer Value decimated

Never said it's a ripoff. I initially thought it's based on investments and I thought maybe they invested heavily into tech since that's the one that dropped the most.

    Transfer Value decimated

wow ok. So expect to receive even less than half, maybe 1/3 if the rates will be going up another 2% as expected. What a kick in the teeth. And there's no way to retrieve the TV after more than 1 year? If I don't get it then, I'm forced to go for pension which I have to wait until I'm 60?

    Transfer Value decimated

I assume everyone else's TV has been decimated since Jan/Feb? I regularly checked it and it peaked at over 300k. Since then it has been dropping and I checked today, and it's down to pretty much half. I have no idea what these guys invest the TV in, but no market has dropped close to 50%. SP500...

Mapped: Corruption in Countries Around the World

Canada's is really good fighting money enforcement with truckers. Real estate on the other hand, impossible I tell you!

    When to expect T4s

The fact we are one of the only countries in the world (with US) that we must do taxes and pay for it (or waste a lot of time doing it ourselves) when CRA has software that can do everything from all the slips they receive is retarded.

    Pay Raise 2021

Convenient for the state in terms of taxes... Guess I'll have to use up some of my RRSP to pull myself down under the 26% tax.

    Pay Raise 2021

Is this done through the OR? And I'm confused by "won't be reassessed" but "treated differently". So what exactly changes? Will the taxable income be less for 2021 and account for 2018-2020 back pay? Isn't this a "reassessment" though? And if I pursue this, I cannot file my taxes using a tax...

    Transfer Value... buying an annuity?

less than 50% actually. Half of TV is tax free and locked. The other half that would be taxable can be reduced with all the RRSP room + taken next tax year when you have 0 income (unless you itch to start working again, but personally I would definitely take 1-2 years off and travel the world)...

    Pay Raise 2021

Reviving this thread. Anyone has submitted to CRA a tax revision for the previous tax years so that you can pay tax on the backpay according to each tax year? Pretty unfair to have to pay 2021 tax on the whole lump sum that was suppose to be received from 2017 through March 2021. Almost all of...

    Transfer Value... buying an annuity?

What exactly are the limits on the TV? As in how much it goes into the locked TIFF and how much is received as income? Or are there other limitations? Pension 1800 number said it's generally 50-50 but can fluctuate 40-60. But if someone has 1 mil in TV, one does receive the entire amount...

    Transfer Value... buying an annuity?

Usually when people talk about transfer value is when they don't have the 25 years in. So my post was entirely based on people who release after their VIE of 9-13 years. Someone at 35 as per my previous post would never have the 25 years of service. (heck, not even 20 if it was the old model)...

    Transfer Value... buying an annuity?

I looked into this yearly annuity thing from sunlife as an example. It seems that the lowest age is 50. Which is basically the same minimum age that you can start drawing your pension. Someone who is 35 and releasing can't get the annuity. Not that it would make much sense. I'd rather have 500k...

    Got my Offer today.

Good luck in basic at 41! I was 25 and found it very hard on the body, and 80% of that was the sleep deprivation in basic. I ended up with heart palpitations many months after I finished basic. I was actually concerned my body might experience a stroke because of the sleep deprivation. I think...

    Don't know what to do

I wish you good luck as a Sig. I've been browsing reddit and oh man, the big majority who complain are Army and the majority from Army are Sigs. I'm sure many Army trades are also tough. Hope you at least like camping /s This is my favorite

Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccinations for the Federal Public Service and RCMP

Why? Are the vaccines so bad? I thought people got the vaccine because they are everything that was promised. You would be correct if you think none of the FDA approved version of Pfizer is available in the US. Only the EUA version (they are exactly the same, but if you take the EUA version...

You Want To Be A Pilot : 2018 - present

If you think the military is a short/medium term you are hardly mistaken my friend. And I mean WING STANDARDS, not 17-25 years career. Expect a minimum 5 years once you got your acceptance letter to just get your wings. That's 150hrs in minimum 5 years. 6-7 years is more realistic with the...
