I happen to know some SNP supporters in Bannockburn. They’re very nice, though I favour Scotland remaining in the UK, I don’t have a dog in the race so their politics doesn’t bother me.

    British Military Current Events

It’s different, people in the republic in theory want the “6 stolen counties”. However, the pragmatic ones recognise that the place is a nest of vipers and if reunification took place, violence would likely engulf the entire island. Further the republic does not have the same financial...

Please no, I live here and want no part of the chaos that the north would cause the republic. Most of my Irish neighbours, friends, and colleagues feel similarly.

And she has the joy of filing 3 tax returns, despite never having earned a dime in the United States. She does however have some Canadian income which necessitates both the Canadian and Irish tax returns. I on the other hand file zero tax returns, as Ireland only requires one if you have income...

CAN-USA Tariff Strife (split from various pol threads)

My wife is a US citizen, the same was true when we opened a bank account here in Ireland. She had to declare she was a “US Person”, conversely I had to declare I was NOT and US person.

    Iran Super Thread- Merged

I took this while out for a walk by my house near Dublin, last weekend. Apparently the prices have dropped now due to a combination of lower crude prices and the government cutting 15 cents from the tax on diesel and 10 cents off petrol.

Well Ireland is particularly non-resilient. This is what my local Tesco looked like after Dublin received 6cm of snow in 2018

The Ferryman has the charm of being between my office and my bus home. So it works for a cheeky pint. Also, it has the level of atmosphere I appreciate. Floors are a bit sticky, but you never feel your life is at risk. Now in fairness, I did once see Jeff Bezos in there, so your milage may...

You don't even need to risk your health in the wilds of Tallaght. Just cross to the south side of Westmorland Street and the price drops to around €8. Actually there is even a decent pub, The Ferryman, almost immediately to the right of that ship.

For scale this about the largest ship in the Irish navy. I walked by this on the way to the office a couple of times this past week, it is not large.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

And century on they still won’t shut up about it. They tend to blame nearly every shortcoming the nation may have on “but the Brits, but 800 years, but 6 counties”. This despite now being one of the wealthiest countries on the planet.

I currently live in Ireland and will attest that the Irish have a terminal case of the peacekeeping myth that makes Canada’s look like a mild cold.

    Alberta government thread

What I find even odder is that deleting the senate will leave even more power in the hands of Ontario and Quebec, the very thing Alberta constantly moans about.
