    Ask The CSE Chief

This indeed does help.  Thanks for this information as it definatly alleviates some concerns I had. Ryan

    Ask The CSE Chief

Chief Gunner, Thanks for the reply regarding my questions.  I have another question if possible.  I am trying to gauge the level of mathematics on the tech QL3.  Is there a QSP or a list of definitive subject matter available (on the DIN perhaps?) so that I can gauge where I need to aim my...

New Name requred for the CSE Branch

Above I see you state that Interior Communications Technicians will take care of IT.  Just curious as to how this applies to Naval Communicators and their current involvement with the majority (if not all of) the IT onboard the ship and ashore? Cheers Ryan

    Ask The CSE Chief

I have a couple of questions.  What will happen to people who are in the midst of the  training system (pre-QL5) while the CSE department re-org is occuring?  Will they remain in their chosen MOC or will they be remustered into the common tech occupation? Would previous trade skills be looked...

Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class Badge - Questions relating to history.

Actually... If you want to find out more information regarding this rank badge... look towards the Army WOII (Warrant Officer 2nd Class) badge (pre-unification) as this is where the current badge for CPO2 and MWO originated from. The traditional CPO2 rank insignia is actually three gold...

    Making Waves....

For anyone who's interested, a show was made in the UK a while back called "Making Waves" which is a drama based around the Royal Navy.  Its pretty interesting and it looks like they've made a lot of effort to make it accurate. However, they only filmed 6 episodes.. pity.. I thought it was...

Specific times for annual leave on ship?

You can submit a leave pass at any time onboard the ship.  It is in your best interest however to know the ships schedule and manning requirements of your section.  If the ship is not sailing and everyone is not away on course you have a better chance of having your leave approved, and as well...

    FSF Sea Fighter

This sort of "made in Canada" type thinking is dangerous.  Yes its good for getting votes from special interest groups etc, in the long run I beleive this is not always the best solution.  You're not always going to come out with the best product.

    O'Connors 15B wishlist.....

Im sure we will!  I am on Orange watch.  Yourself? There is always talk of this -- around the ships and what not, and I agree with the fact that our trade is highly technical and going to get more so as the months pass.  However, I am often wondering about what the result of such an...

    O'Connors 15B wishlist.....

You could even give ops control of CCMS - software could be developed that would allow them to select what circuits they want up and what freq's they want.  Just have the NET(C)'s around to trouble shoot when something goes bad.

    FSF Sea Fighter

The Australian (and New Zealand) Anzac Class Frigates are of a modified MEKO-200 (German) design, built in Australia.  Interestingly enough, Australia built 2 of their 6 Adelaide class (US Oliver Hazard Perry class) frigates in Australia as well (HMAS Melbourne, and HMAS Newcastle). On another...

    Hey guys...a couple of Q's..

When you get the fleet school for your QL3 training, you will most likely be required to wear Ankle Boots.  When you are posted to a ship however, upon being issued your sea kit you will be issued a pair of these babies: http://www.terrafootwear.com/EnglishVersion/Products/Mens/Military/02.html...

    Electronics for 280 replacement

COMMUNICATIONS - The new ships will hopefully have a comms suite that isnt full of mission fits and jury rigged kit like the CPF's have.  (And Im sure the 280's to).  Hopefully we can ditch the AN/UYK-507 series processors and maybe have a commerical off the shelf type system. (Intel...

do you have to deal with heights in the Navy

We (NavComms) have to climb the mast on a regular occurance.  I have been up the mast numerous amounts of times to rig the strong backs for Dressing Ship and Christmas Lights.  As well, if we lose a halyard on the flag deck we have to climb up and repair that. Ryan

CAF Specialist Pay [Spec Pay]- All Trades [MERGED]

I was having a discussion with some of my co-workers about this very topic and we came to the conclusion that why is it such a big deal if operators get spec pay?  You arent going to lose your spec pay and it isnt coming out of your pocket.  In the end we are all a team and should be supporting...

CAF Specialist Pay [Spec Pay]- All Trades [MERGED]

I hate to play devils advocate here but without that all those personnel manning the ops room that warship now becomes a cruise ship.  Basically, no operators = no warship.  MSE, CSE, Stewards, Supply Techs, Cooks etc are all onboard to support the Ops room in the end.  If they need to pay...

History of naval parades done ashore

When I was on my OSQAB our grad parade was just our 20 person class, our instructor, and the Sea Division Chief.  It occured in the afternoon.  Every time we do hands fall in or divisions aboard the ship, or divisions at the school, it always includes the ceremony of Colours.  As well, you...
