So I guess the 28 years in requirement to get 39 days annual is getting dropped to 25.

I'm still on PDL so most of you cats probably already knew this.

I will point out that such levels of paid vacation are unheard of in industry.

Not disputing that you don't deserve it or that it is part of your overall compensation package.

Aligns nicely with when people are eligible for a pension - a nice way to recognize that fact.

I always thought the 28 years was a weird number to pick. But I was never peeved off about it either...

Oh well now I have something like 20 days to burn before end of March.

Constantly changing hours, inability to refuse unsafe work and unpaid overtime is not typical in industry too. As HFT said, recruiting center is open.

Your industry, perhaps. Some industries even go as far as to have 50% on/50% off schemes. Work hard, play hard. I’m in aerospace/defense and get 30 days annual equivalent prorated to my part-time salary. So your “unheard of” is a stretch.

yeah that was such a weird number that none of us could figure out. Guess next year I won't be the only one getting 30. the nice part is they finally fixed the reserve leave to match the regular force. Now our reserve staff will be getting 25 days instead of 24 (none have the 25 years yet).

It probably has something to do with release by age and length of service.

15.17 - RELEASE OF OFFICERS - AGE AND LENGTH OF SERVICE
(1) Except where the Minister has otherwise prescribed under paragraph (2), the retirement age of an officer is the first to occur of the following ages:
  1. the age for his rank set out in the table to this article that applies to him; or
  2. the age at which he completes,
    1. as a colonel or above, 30 years, or
    2. as a lieutenant-colonel or below, 28 years,
full-time paid service, including service as a non-commissioned member, in any of Her Majesty's Forces.

28 was a rounding-up of the old school IE20 > IPS penalty point for leaving before 35 years total. IIRC, as soon as you elected IPS, you lost the internalized IE immediate annuity, and you transitioned to an immediate annuity minus an early release penalty (70% - x% per year early). I recall the penalty break-even point where an IPS made more than an IE was 27years months. Stay in to 28+ and you got your 6th week of annual.

The new policy comes into effect on 1 Apr. For you Regular Force pers, it will come into play next FY. I'm assuming that as a Reservist, I'll get another 0.5 days per month remaining on this contract after 1 Apr.

We worked 20 twelve-hour shifts every six weeks. After 30 years, we got seven weeks annual vacation.

There was a lot of mandated and voluntary OT, Stat Holidays, Call Back, Standby. If you wished, you could take it as Lieu Time, and add it to your vacation bank at time-and-a-half.

You got two 12-Hour Floating Stat Holidays a year. Shift Bonus, Change of Shift, Change of Station, Working Quarantine etc. were added to the calculation.

You also got two weeks annual Leave with Pay for CAF Reserve training.

Now they have things like Meal Break allowance, Early and Late calls, Wash and Lock-up etc. could be added to vacation, or taken as pay. Also, paid Stress Leave.

These are things I remember from the old collective agreement. Not really familiar with the latest. But, if you preferred Lieu Time to money, you could increase your vacation.
