Hello All

(Mods feel free to move this to the appropriate forum)It's been awhile since I've posted on milnet.ca, things have been so hectic.  I completed my masters a couple of years ago and around a year after landed my present job, which I love.  I now manage the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society in St. Kitts.  Brimstone Hill Fortress was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.  It is the most extensive historic British military fortification in the Western Hemisphere and the second largest citadel fortress in the Caribbean after Citadel La Ferrierre in Haiti.  According to the U.S. National Park Service it is the probable prototype for all the polygonal fortifications built by the British in North America.

I'm currently working on a project to increase knowledge of the 4th West India Regiment which was garrisoned at Brimstone Hill from 1795-97.  The British Army raised 12 West India Regiments (WIRs), comprised of black soldiers, in the 18th century, due to the high mortality rate among British soldiers serving in the tropics.  The story of the WIRs is one of incredible professionalism, loyalty and heroism even in the face of appalling racism.  The project I'm working on, in cooperation with the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, requires some period uniforms being made.  Of course I'm using my professional contacts in the heritage field to source period costume makers, but I believe in casting a net as wide as possible.  This is why I'm sending out a query on this site to anyone who can provide me with the name and perhaps contact info as well of period costume makers.  Sutler's, the English company that used to make period uniforms for us, went belly up just before I took the helm at Brimstone Hill.  You will see an example of the 4th WIR uniform in the image attached.  Thanks in advance, for more information on Brimstone Hill visit the website addresses below.

To all the brave Canadians flying the flag in Afghanistan and in the skies above Libya (and I'm sure there are some Spec Op guys on the ground there too), Godspeed and keep up the great work, we're all proud of you.
