We all know that soldiers usually pick up souvenirs during their time overseas. Over the past wars in the 20th century I can think off the top of my head, badges, iron crosses, a helmet, maybe even a Luger or P38.

After an old ANZAC Digger has passed away here in Australia, who not only had survived Gallipoli, and the European Western Front, well, you would not believe what  secret he had been hiding in his home all these years.

I can't find the other cutting with a pic, but the head was quite intact with mumified flesh and a distinct '.303' bullet wound to the forehead with exit out the back of the neck. Very well preserved considering its age. It sure must have been a shock for who ever opend up the wooded case it was in.

Grand Dad did indeed have a secret from the war in the Dardenelles!

Sort of makes having to go pick up Grandpa's old PIAT round pale a bit...although you do some pretty weird things in those old fellows houses.

I guess Canada should send a team to Turkey to study the Turkish Army records department (perhaps a Brigadier, a couple of Lieutenant Colonels, a Major, and five or six Captains; a project office and budget of about $5 million for the first year to start, without the translation costs of Turk to English and Turk to French). It would be interesting to find what type of records they kept that would allow the identification of a 90 year old mummified skull.

I am sure that Paul Martin would find the results very, very important, and a number one priority for his government.

:salute:
