The Grinch`s Psycho-sexual Development
One of the main things we see the Grinch eating is glass bottles. This habit is a result of a disturbance in his oral stage. As a baby, the first thing we see Grinch do is eat a plate (next slide). Although we don`t see it on screen, this is probably a habit that continues, especially since we don`t see his guardians doing much in a way of trying to deter this behavior. Besides eating glass, the Grinch also shows other signs of a fixation on the oral stage. Throughout the movie the Grinch shows several nervous habits like biting his nails or chewing on a toothpick.
