Hi Everyone,

I would appreciate any suggestions, tips or pointers. I am a PR holder but have lived in the UK for over 5 years. My background has mainly been in accounting and finance (none of this training is from Canada), with about 3 years of work experience as a university lecturer in finance. I initially applied for the Training Development Officer role, and I completed the "testing and screening" phase of the recruitment process almost 3 weeks ago. I am now waiting to progress to the "interview and medical" stage.

However, I am having second thoughts about the role I applied for and worry it will mean I will have to work in education even after I leave the forces. I also read some opinions on here about how the Training Development Officer role was nearly discontinued in the past due to budget cuts (not sure how true this is). I am considering changing my application to an intelligence or finance officer. I would really appreciate any insights as to the challenges and opportunities I can expect from either career path, and/or just general opinions, and advice, really. Also, I will be 31 this year and married with one child, not sure if it matters. Thank you all in advance.

Dude... you have to be an Infantry Officer....

All that suppressed rage will make you a valuable leader of troops in battle! ;)

The first question would be, have you been physically present in Canada for more than 730 days in the more than last "five years"? Though enrolment has been opened to PRs, you should be prepared for the reality that not all occupations will be open to you simply because you are not a Canadian citizen. Or, even if you did become a citizen, because of where you were born. Mostly that has to do with the level of security clearance required for specific occupations. Sometimes that requirement is not exclusively a Canadian criteria, but because access to foreign information and technology may be part and parcel of an occupation's duties, the foreign power (in many instances that foreign power is the USA) is the one who defines who can and cannot have access.
