Hey Guys,

My name is Maciek, I am a long time military advocate :P I went through the cadet program, got into the CIC, teaching sailing in Sarnia, ON, etc. My dream was to go to RMC upon graduation from high school...unfortunately I didn't get in (I FAILED THE ENTRANCE EXAM  :-\) I then applied again for ROTP twice, didn't get in the first time, the second time I had an offer, but I was on a coop term in Germany and could not accept it. Now I am graduating in August and want to go DEO , Logistics , Sea. I am graduating with a Commerce degree, honours Business and Computer Science coop. I guess I would just like to get some advice from any navy logo types, in regards to job specs , time away from home, how competetive would my application be? any other advice? I worked in the corporate sector for a big company...I will possibly get employment when I graduate, but I long for a sense of teamwork and achievement in my job which so far I have only felt in the military setting :)

THANKS!!!!
Maciek

I am not a Logistics officer, nor do I work in the logistics department onboard ship, but I am onboard a ship and cant give you some insight as to what the Logistics officer does on ship.

The logistics department onboard ship is comprised of Supply Technicians, Cooks, Stewards and Clerks.  As a logistics officer you will be at the head of these departments - liasing with the personnel in them and the Executive officer who handles all matters which are of an administrative nature.  As well you will probably have some face time with the Captain as well.  The logistics officer usually has an Assitant Logistics Officer who works beneath them (an A/SLt or SLt in Rank).

Your time away from home, if posted to a ship, will vary.  Depending on the ships schedule, you could be away from home doing for a couple of days to weeks (Sea Trials, Exercises) or on a long deployment (3-6 or more months) throughout the year.

I beleive a Naval Logistics officers time will be split up between being on ship and posted to various shore billets on the base (Base supply/Headquarters) in some sort of Admin/Supply/Finance job.

Hope this information helps!

I think Navy Supply O's get Ships chandler jobs as well.  That sounds pretty jammy.  I've seen one fly into greece to meet us and I think one flew into holland for us too.  Not sure where you would work out of tho.  Jammy all the same  :)

Ahh you're probably thinking of the Forward Logistics Service Officer.  They basically follow the ship from port to port while on a long operation, co-ordinating everything logistic from the shore side which includes provisions, fuel, chandlery, vehicles, contract workers etc..  Seems like a pretty jammy job.  The one that we had just spent his time flying from port to port meeting us on arrival and staying in hotels.
