I applied for the regular forces September 30th, 2014 and got an email confirming the server received my application the same day. I emailed for a status update this morning and was told that my application was "closed in January 2015 due to lack of contact". After doing some reading on these forums, I discovered I should have been given a second follow-up email if my application was to be processed. I was told my next step should be to travel to the London recruiting center( I live in Windsor) and get them to re-open my file. What do they mean by "lack of contact"?

P.S. Please forgive any errors on my part, this is my first post on these forums.

I am assuming they tried to contact you however they could not get in contact with you or they expected you do try and contact you and you did not. I know for myself (though I am in the Reserves), I had to many multiple efforts to ensure my file was constantly opened and progressing through the "system". I'm still in the system and will probably contact them in a week or so for an update if I do not hear anything soon.

Anyways, good luck.

That's what I figured at first too, but they obviously had my email address. I wasn't told to contact anyone. Anyway, I'm driving down to London tomorrow. Good luck with your application!

I'd probably say that they received your online application, processed it and then sent you an email explaining what your next step was.  But that the 2nd email, probably went straight to your "online" SPAM/JUNK email folder even before reaching you.
