AQ Bomb kills 12 SNC-Lavalin employees - Algeria

Algeria.... what a mess.  Even after independence, it never settled down.
What a shame.

My condolences to family, friends and comrades of those injured / killed in this sensless attack.

Rest in peace.

Seems Al Qaeda is out to wreck havoc and bring about chaos in more locations.  Not even Algeria is safe from their madness.

The network has broadcast an audio recording Friday purportedly belonging to spokesman Salah Abu Mohammed that says the group carried out Tuesday's attack on a police academy and a Wednesday attack on a Canadian engineering firm.

The two attacks killed a total of 55 people, according to Algerian authorities. There was no way to authenticate the message but in the past militant groups have delivered responsibility claims via the news channel.

ALGIERS, Algeria -- The Algerian Interior Ministry says a suicide car bombing targeting a police academy has killed at least 43 people and injured 38.

The ministry says in a statement that the death toll was a "preliminary estimate" for the attack early Tuesday in the Les Issers district of Boumerdes, some 56 kilometres east of the capital, Algiers.

A security official at the school told The Associated Press the attack occurred as young applicants were in line, waiting to register at the local police academy.

He spoke on condition of anonymity because he isn't authorized to discuss such matters with the media.

Here's a few more things AQ is claiming credit for in Algeria - .pdf attached if link doesn't work

Highlights of the CAN operation, from AQ's pen (or at least that of a supporter/sympathizer):

It was carried out by the martyrdom operative Abdul Rahmaan Abu Zaynab Al-Mouritani, and he targeted a bus with his car which was carrying about 20 Canadian who were working for a Canadian company in that area, as it was moving with the guard of the security forces towards a hotle in Al-Buwayrah.

So far, the casualties of the Canadians remain unknown and unreported, and while the Murtaddeen keep their silence about the real result of this operation , they lie to the people accusing the Mujahideen falsely of to targeting civilians.

On our behalf , we assure our Muslim Ummah that the Mujahideen planned for this operation for more than 3 months, and were sure that the passengers of this guarded bus were Canadians, and accordingly and specifically attacked this bus , unlike the claims of the Murtaddeen, that we target our Muslim worker brethren And as we thank Allah for this success, and ask Him for more support, as He is our Liege-Lord, Supporter and Helper. We want to assure you on this occasion that we will from now on continue, responding fiercely and brutally to any criminal operation the Murtaddeen will plan to do, whether against the Mujahideen who are the members of the organization, or against the weak sons (people) of our Ummah.

AQs popularity is very limited in Algeria - something about their indiscriminate bombing - killing muslim citzen with little regard for who & what they are.  AQs attempt to deflect the bad PR is laughable but... what do you want/expect ?
