Howdy folks,

I posted a lot of questions a few months back before I was in. I‘m just finishing basic now and got my poting message yesterday. I‘ll be with the Strats in Edmonton but my QL3 doesn‘t start until Jan 2003. What a wait. Basic wasn‘t too tough at all and the PT was a joke. We had civilian PT staff and did silly things like "With a jump, atten-tion" etc...

What will armoured battle school be like?
Also, can I do my PAT with the unit I‘ll be serving or will I be hanging out in Wainwright for the next many months?

Thanks and take care

what happens when you get to the school like what do they teach you?

It depends on wether your heavy armoured, or armoured recce.  Also if your Pres or Reg.

oops should of speicified my bad lol i was thinkin more on the lines of reg force

I am not fully familiar with how the regs work in regards to wether you can choose to be armd recce or heavy recce from the start.

Also the QL# system (atleast for the mo') is gone.

The trades course for armd would likely depend upon what kind of armoured soldier you wanted to be.   Drive a LAV or G-wagon, or a Leo.

There is a bunch of guys who have a lot experiance in corps and I am sure one of them will answer your question.  :)

Listen don't go spouting of about things you nothing of. If you are a reservist which you are, don't refer to us as mo's it is a slag. The regs at the moment don't have a recce course for the most part they are OJT unless they are becoming part of a Coyote troop which you will then take the applicable qualifying course. The regs don't get broken down on courses that the reserve do.

Patty are you going to meaford for your your course?

The armoured school is full of all sorts of courses depends on what level you are at in your training stream

Im not in the military just let, i just wanted to see what kind of training they do at basic crewman cource..the recrutein site doesnt give much info on what happens durin that time..in June of 2005 i hopefully be applying for crewman

Good to hear.

Well you'd have to do your SQ course first. There you woul d learn weapons handling like the GPMG C-6 and hand grenades.
once you are through that you would go on the armoured portion of you training. At this point you will be taugh basic skills required by an armoured crewman. IE comunications equiptment and vehicle driving. The role of the armoured and break down and tactics of a unit.

You'll have Weapons classes in handling the C7/C8, C6, and C9.  You'll have handling classes for Grenades, NM72 and 84 mm Carl Gustav.  You will have Drill and First Aid classes.  You will learn of the History and Role of the Armour Corps and the three main Regiments.  You will probably get Driver & Maintenance Crses for the LSVW, the MLVW and perhaps the G Wagen.  Then there are all the Communications classes to learn Radio Voice Procedure, Message formats, and how to operate vehicle mounted TCCCS systems.  You should learn Field Craft and Hygiene.  You will learn how to light Stoves and Lanterns.  How to did a trench.  More Drill.  You will learn how to wear your uniform, clean your room and kit, how to salute officers, the rank system.  More Drill.

Recce41 can better lay out what is on the Crse, but you will have to wait until he gets back.

We don't have any G-Wagons at the school yet. For the armoured vehicle part of the DP1, the last few courses have been learning to drive the Coyote.

As I am an instructor on the following DP1 Crewman course, I may be able to help.  As instructors we are teaching Communications and all that is included in that domain, MLVW driving and maintenance, and the Coyote driver course.  As usual, all the details of the Armour Corps and it's entities is taught as well.  I hope that answers you question.  George, a lot of the stuff you mentioned in your response is now taught at basic and during the soldiers qualification (SQ) course.  Cheers

John is coming down for the DP3 Crse.  We'll have about 11 on the crse by the end of it.

I am on my way down with a van to pick up a few things at the Museum on Sunday.  Is there the makings of a Gagetown beer call before Thurs with Dave and Lance and the rest of you?

GW

Hmm, might be possible.. Lance, what do you think?
