One of the banner ads in the rotation of ads in the top right (in the box beside where it shows stuff like total time logged in) in the forums tries to install/use a bad site certficate.

The image shows as : https://milnet.ca/ads/Openx/www/images/ad-milnet.ca120x90.png but doesn't have a working link like other ads that appear in this spot.

Edited to remove wasted info.

Can you explain that in more user friendly terms?  How does that impact us or the website?

I'm not seeing it, the Milnet.ca ad shows up as regular HTTP in the rotation:

http://milnet.ca/ads/Openx/www/images/ad-milnet.ca120x90.png

Are you using HTTPS to view the site?

Interesting as the ad in questions is acutally an Icon for this site.

Doh! Mike beat me to it lol

Only every once in a while does the image in question come up with a HTTPS: link here, also when it does there is no link on the image itself so clicking on it does nothing. It doesn't come up like this often but when it does I get an annoying dialog about the certificate and asked to accept/cancel etc. Sitting at the top of a forum and hitting refresh it comes up after a while.

---
For HTTPS: connections most websites use a certificate signed by a trusted source which vouches for it's accuracy. The one in use in this case is self signed (saves paying $50-$200 to get one from a trusted source) and while it provides the same connection security there is no guarantee army.ca is really on the other end.

Actually I've considered buying a trusted cert and forcing all traffic over HTTPS for added security. Haven't done it, it's still too low down the budget list. ;)

I'll keep an eye out for the HTTPS ad warning... I'd definitely notice it as it's a popup for me too. (I know because I have to accept it every time I go into some of the admin screens. ;))

Cheers
Mike

I'll sell you a "Trusted" cert.  For you GI, special deal.  ;D
