Another interesting find a while back out of a local garage sale. Why family does not want to keep such interesting things, I'll never know.

Bribie Island www.bribie.com.au in post war years was, and still is a haven for retirees. Now in their mid 80s at least, Veterans of WW2 are dying off, and their momentos from their lives go in sales. Sad but true.

Anyways here is a unique find.

This is a Japanese Type 30, Variation B bayonet for the 6.5mm Type 38 and 7.7mm Type 99 rifles. Japanese MGs were also capable of mounting bayonets.

This bayonet was made by Toyada Automatic Loom Works in Nagoya, under Nagoya supervison, c.1942.

There is a bullet strike on the blade. If only I knew the story behind this!

The bayonet was a battlefield pick up by an Aussie Digger, who ended up retiring here on the island, and after he died, his wife was moved into a old folks home, and the rest is history.

Two more pics from the other side of the bayonet.

Not bad for $25.

Wow, that looks like a pretty fearsome bayonnet. Looks a bit like a Katana no?
Could you show a picture of it next to another object for scale OWDU?

Overall length - 510mm - 20 1/16 in
Blade length - 398mm - 15 5/8 in

Hope that helps.

A little longer than the 18 in bayonnets we used to have for the Enfield.

Am more familiar with the japanese blades that had the "hooked" quillion

That's an amazing find . To bad you couldn't find out the history be interesting to here what happened to the bayonet with the bullet hole in it .
By any chance is there a serial number on some where on the blade ? IF so you may be able to track what unit the blade was sent to .
