Hey Everyone,

I was on standby for BPara at CAAWC last month and now have a hard spot for this Sunday. I have a couple of questions:
  1. I was issued a Pattern 82 ruck, and while the kit list just says “CAF-issued ruck,” others in my unit who have their wings say you can’t jump with a Pattern 82. I tried to exchange it today, but was told CTS rucks are for operations only, so I’ll have to attend with the Pattern 82. Can anyone confirm if that’s acceptable?
  2. Also I’m a bit nervous about failing. I’ve heard most people pass, but I’d appreciate any advice or key things to know that could help maximize my chances of success when it comes to PLFs, Mock Tower, etc.
  3. EDIT**. I’m added this as I forgot to mention it in the original post but a rigger who was on standby who had failed his previous BPara course at the Mock tower was speaking to me and mentioned that British Para’s would be attending the next course (I’m unsure if they’d be candidates or instructors). Regardless I’m wondering if there’s any likelihood upon passing that we’d receive foreign jump wings.

I would assume that for equipment jumps that CAAWC does the same thing that CABC did in Edmonton and has '64 rucks or the CTS ruck there for that purpose, same with the dummy rifles.

Don't overthink it - follow instructions, and "keep your feet and knees together and you won't get hurt"

The '82 pattern ruck "can" be jumped --- once - then it's bust ass coat hanger frame will be toast ;)

Um, no, I doubt it. They're probably just going to join the course on the jumps phase so they can get their Canadian wings.

And top tip: If the British are coming, take care they don't half inch your shiny things ;)

To get Foreign wings, you need to jump from a foreign aircraft with foreigns JM's etc.
There is no requirement to go through another countries full Jump Course (provided you are a jumper already)

Pay attention to detail and committ to your exits and PLFs. The jab is there for a reason, exaggerate your positioning. As someone who struggled with the mock tower exits, really focus on the technique. You'll drill it enough to make it 2nd nature.

Also note the mock tower openings are more violent then a normal canopy opening. With your first real jump you'll actually feel your body being slowed down, the tower is just a sharp stop.

I am not at the school but I do know they have a pool of CTS rucks. Bring yours but if not jumpable I would stress it too much. They see this scenario on a regular basis
