There was a blurb on the show Gruen Planet in Australia (imagine a mix of Rick Mercer Show and Dragon's Den, all based on deconstructing advertising) that mentioned that the Australian Defence Force spends $40 million per year on advertising. With the amount of targeted ads on TV and radio, as well as corporate sponsorships for events, that doesn't surprise me. They're not at the level of the US, but at certain times of the year, it almost seems that way.
That got me thinking; how much do we spend on that sort of stuff? I understand that we are in a time of shrinking budgets (so are they), but they've been increasing PR and advertising, not decreasing it in the past year or so.
