Okay, I have been looking into this for a while and couldn't come up with anything useful, so my question is do the CF provide housing for Reserve members? i.e. Are there houses/apartments made for the Reservists, or do they help you find a place?

No.

In some locations, where there are adequate numbers of Q's, there are reservists living in. For the most part, Res F mbrs live on the economy, unless they're on Cl B or C away from their home units, i.e. on course or tasking away from home.

PMQ and SQ are in short supply in many parts of the country, there's substantial waiting lists at some bases, and Res are SOL in terms of living in.  Even if on Cl B or C, some res mbrs don't live in the shacks or PMQ, in some extreme cases hotels are rented for the mbrs.

As ParaMedTech said, Reservists live "on the economy".

Class "A" Reservists are assumed to maintain a private residence.  Since they work part-time for the CF the CF is in no way obligated to provide housing.

Class "B" and "C" Reservists on contracts of over 180 days but less than a year are entitled to either TD or RTA.  On contracts over one year they may be entitled to a cost move (individual circumstances vary.. this is a general interpretation) however very, very few units will authorize this and will generally limit their hiring efforts to the local areas.

And in some places *cough* *cough* the CFHA isn't doing their jobs evicting certain people who aren't on Class B or C or even work for the CF anymore... ::) no wonder we're all out of places to live eh? Not to mention the unoccupied spaces that just aren't being filled at the moment, but hey, they're STILL all filled up! Funny that...

And other places allow Public Servants to occupy PMQ's ...

Indeed... isn't it the CFHA? NOT the CFACLHA (Canadian Forces Anyone Can Live Here Agency)

One more thing, do the CF help find a place for the Reservist to stay, or is it up to you?

  OK... was that a serious question??  Ahem.... Sorry, Mike.

Reservists, unless placed in single quarters as part of the terms and conditions of their contract, are on their own to find housing.

Thinking about moving out eh? Don't count on the CF for that if you're a Class A as discussed before. Look into other jobs too man, Class A can't really support you all the time. Honestly, don't count on Class A to support you. This isn't a slam on anyone whose working and paying the bills on a Class A basis, but the whole idea of Class A reservist is that you are working at another job, or you are currently a student. The whole idea of PRes in general is that you are working this as a part-time job, and serving your country. If you want a full time gig, join the RegF or go on Class B/C. However, keep in mind that Class B contracts vary from places to places and go from over 15 days consecutive or 3 yrs maximum and you have to renew your contract every 3 years. If you don't have a contract after 3 years, or if you weren't offered a renewal or your position doesn't exist anymore you're out of luck. Class B is not a bad way to go, however, keeping in mind the risks, RegF is more stable and offere more benefits. Or just get your education, get a full time job and do Class A on the side, like it was intended to be.

Just my 0.02 rupees.

I'd have to agree with the other posters.

Class A alone will not really get you by, if you are alone. Also, don't assume you will get a Class B contract right away either, especially as a no hook Pte. If your looking to become self sufficient at your age, I'd suggest going regs or getting a civi job.

Good Luck.
