"Defence Minister Bill Graham and General Rick Hillier, the Chief of the Defence Staff, presided over a ceremony October 13, 2005, to bestow the name "Camp Nathan Smith" on the compound that houses the Canadian Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT).  Private Nathan Smith of the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI), died on April 17, 2002, at the military training area known as Tarnak Farm, which lies on the outskirts of Kandahar City. Pte Smith was the youngest and most junior victim of the friendly fire accident that also claimed the lives of Sergeant Marc Leger, Corporal Ainsworth Dyer and Private Richard Green."

Good show - least that could be done to remember.

What an honor for this young man to have.  He is sadly missed!

Wasnt Pvt. Richard A. Green the youngest killed in the accident?

Yeah your right

The deceased soldiers are: Sgt. Marc D. Léger, 29, Cpl. Ainsworth Dyer, 25, Pte. Richard A. Green, 22, and Pte. Nathan Smith, 27.

Someone must of made a mistake typing that up   ???

Maybe Pte Nathan Smith had the least amount of service time in the CF.

No point trying to second guess this one.....
the story will come out in it's own good time
I for one think that selecting any one of the 4 names to be appropriate.... period.

At the going down of the sun & in the morn,
we will remember them!

Chimo!

i agree any one of there names would be a great choice i was just curious to see where or if a mistake was made

appreceate your thought.... but speculating on who made mistakes and why and when are they going to correct it...... will just cause grief and belittle the honour that has been bestowed.

It's done..... good choice.... let's soldier on.

just an update.... i' emailed the dnd webmastmer, and he did make a mistake and is correcting. This is what they wrote

OTTAWA- A news release issued by the CF on October 15, 2005, announcing the renaming of the Canadian Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) compound in Kandahar, to "Camp Nathan Smith" mistakenly identified Pte Nathan Smith as the "youngest and most junior" victim of the Tarnak Farm friendly fire accident. The 2002 incident also took the lives of Sgt Marc Leger, Cpl Ainsworth Dyer, and Pte Richard Green.

Please note that Pte Nathan Smith was not the youngest victim, but he was the most junior soldier of the four with the least number of years in service with the CF. We apologize for this error and regret any inconvenience this situation may have caused.
