Hi. Im am hoping to be accepted to the reserves in a couple of weeks or maybe a couple of months. My testing has gone really well and it looks good. I am in high school and Cadets at the moment and intend on going to college for police foundations to hopefully become a Reg Force MP. What is the process like from going from reserve to reg force? How long is the process? is it competitive?  Thank you.

This may help.

Component Transfers (Reserve to Regular): Q&A

If you want to be a Reg Force MP, why are you joining the reserves?  Component transfers can take anywhere from a few weeks to several years; they are not a guarantee and are based on the trade and what the individual can (or may) bring to it.

The CT Q&A thread is another good place to look for information.

OP has to complete a 2 year college program related to MP to get into the MP MOSID (IIRC).

Reserves while taking college makes sense in that regard.

Normally I'd agree with you.

It depends how old the OP is IMO. If you are in grade 11 right now it wouldn't be a bad idea, it'd be unlikely that he/she would get any training done this summer. But they could do BMQ on weekends in grade 12 and then  ideally BMQ - L and then Dp 1 in the summer. Then they could put in a CT (With a transfer date of when they will finish school) once they start school or shortly after that. They'd get some experience as well as make some money during school + the education reimbursement. But like you said it is by no means a guarantee whatsoever , but it would give the OP something to do while potentially waiting for the call.

@OP make your police foundations is approved by the CAF, as not all are (As I've been reading in the recruiting threads).

Edit: added transfer date

I am in grade 11 and I am going in for Nav Comm. If I was waiting on a component transfer after college how likely is it that I could do a full time reserve contract while waiting for a component transfer? Are full time contracts easy to come by? Its a few years away but I like to plan and think about what Im doing.

The Navy reserve has some full time reserve positions, how easy they are to get into, I've no idea.  There are some full time NavRes folks on here...hopefully one will come along.

Full-time reserve opportunities are posted here: http://armyapp.forces.gc.ca/reo-oer/index.aspx?lang=eng

What they are, what they require, their hours, etc. vary depending on the job. There are usually very few positions for Privates/OSs - there are many more once you get to Cpl/LS.

CTs are usually long processes. Having had several friends go through them, especially into popular trades (Like MP might be), the process can take a while. Being on Class B in the meanwhile is a good move.

Class B/C contracts are relatively plentiful in Navres, for now. As of now, most MCDVs have a crew that is mainly made up of reservists (Usually on 3 year full time contracts for the core crew and other people cycling in and out for OJT) There's a lot of talk of blended crews and more Reg Force on MCDVs...etc and even moving to a system where the MCDVs are no longer "reserve" ships, but thats another subject....

So, in sum, there are "a lot" of contracts now, but who knows how many there will be in 4 years.  Also, it goes without saying, these contracts are on the coasts. There are also opportunities for Navcomms to do IT type work at units, but that is not guaranteed.
