My details (hopefully ) are listed here and can be contacted at any time via the email at [email protected]. Thanks once again.

Canada and the UK have a Memorandum of understanding permitting Reserve soldiers to serve with each other - make a formal request via your chain of command.  You may also wish to find the current list of Canadian Reserve units on this site to get contact info for the unit in Canada.

It's too bad this regiment isn't around anymore...

Then you can come to Beautiful British Columbia instead of Toronto!  ;D

Wrong town.....The Irish Regiment are in Sudbury.

My mistake!  I'm not sure why I thought they were in Toronto.  I think if I were Badger, I would rather that they be in TO than Sudbury!  :D

1st Bn Irish Regiment of Canada were in Toronto at FYA. At present they are no longer on the activeorder of battle/reduced to Nil Strength. 2nd Bn are in Sudbury. The Irish Fusiliers of Canada were a regiment in Vancouver also no longer around and  now perpetuated by the BCRs IIRC.

Badger it would probably help if we/you knew where in Canada you were going to be as then we could direct you to the Infantry Regiments in that vicinty so you could inform your chain of command who you would be like to be attached to as noted earlier.

In the past I've had both Brits and Australians attached to my Reserve company, good experience for all.

I have their cap badge as my Mom was dating one of them prior to meeting my dad.

Hi folks, thanks a lot for your replies, at the moment, I am not a reservist but regular so dont know how this will affect a posting. I would like to be near some friends of mine in TO if I can. I tried to find the link for reserve units on this site but had no luck. I also tried to find the guy you suggested but the site said that there was no such member? Im going to try the link and see how that pans out.

The closest Regular Force Infantry are in Petawawa (6 hours NE of Toronto).  There are two Bn of The Royal Canadian Regiment in Pet.  Everything else in Ontario would be Reserve Infantry, and I don't think that would be an option for a Regular Force Exchange.

Had a look at the MOU and this looks like it could help. I actually would prefer to be attached to a regular unit as they have quarters and singles blocks. The MOU states that if you go to the reserves, you are liable for your own quarters. I'm easing this to the wife at the mo and don't want to have to tell her not only that I am posted for a month or so but I also have to pay my own costs!

Badger, and all fellow board members.  I am an Associate member of The Irish Regiment of Canada Veterans Association. If any help or direction is required in regards to the Regiment I may be able to help.

Check my webs site dedicated to the Irish Regiment of Canada http://irishregimentofcanada.ca You can contact me through the site.

I think you have missed Badger's intent.  He would like to have the opportunity to partake in an "Exchange" with the Regiment as 'Full Time' employment and training.  I don't think the Reserves would be able to facilitate that, with the exception of a Summer Trg stint for a week or so on Exercise.  It looks like he will have to contact a Regular Force Bn and see what they can facilitate for him.

Guys,
Thanks for the help, I spoke to several of the senior officers today and they say I should have no problems in this. Over the last few days we have had requests from several units overseas for attachments but I want Canada, so I will write the letter next week. Gibraltar Regt is coming over poaching as well. Been there, bloody warm and to much grog! Oh, and the Apes bite! Don't think the moose do!  ;D

Let's keep quiet about the black bears for the time being, fellows; wait until he's signed up and all.  :D
