Hello everyone,
I’m getting ready to head to Edmonton soon for my DP1 as a Financial Services Administrator (FSA).
For those who have already completed DP1 in Edmonton — could you please share what the training is like? What should I expect in terms of the daily routine and accommodations?
Are we allowed to leave the base on weekends and explore the city?

I already have the official kit list, but if you have any extra packing tips or personal recommendations on what’s worth bringing — I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

Hello,
As you would not be through it, I'm hoping you may be able to provide some clarity on the DP1 for FSA (reserves) as I have recently finished BMQ and am considering requesting a transfer. I did fairly well on the physical side of training but I am getting up in years and think that the FSA role may allow me to have a longer CAF career as opposed to the combat trades which I am currently in (won't say how many years, but enough that it could be a concern). I work in an office/financial setting now which I enjoy, but I have been told that the DP1 course is 10 weeks which my normal work would not be something that I could take off. Nothing about my employer, but more around my career and income. Can you confirm if that is how long the full time DP1 is, and any other details around what it was like?
Thanks for any help you can give!

My course lasted two full months (July and August). It was held in Edmonton, but some people also take it in Borden. Physically, the course is much easier than BMQ; it mainly consists of classroom instruction, with classes running Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On weekends, you are allowed to leave the base and go into the city. There were people on the course who were 50+ years old, and they had no issues.

@Dominik Hi, thanks for providing the info. I may be loaded to the 2026 course in Edmonton as a PRes FSA. (I have completed bmq and doing ojt now) I wonder if the Borden one is the RegF one? I can find some FSA dp1 course on the MyCAF app, but those are a lot longer, like 3 months. If there is a two month course in may or june, I would love to take that. Not sure where to find more info? Thanks!

@Chris330 I am a reservist and I completed a training course for reservists. The material is essentially the same; it’s just more condensed for reservists.
