Hello,

I'm an engineering student considering enrolling for an aerospace or mechanical and electrical engineering officer position after graduation. I have an eye condition that makes me very sensitive to light but doesn't effect my visual acuity. It's just very painful for me to be in brightly lit environments without wearing sunglasses. I read in the dress instructions document that sunglasses are allowed for all orders of dress (2-2-12) but I'm worried that it would cause problems for me. I'm terrified that I'll immediately get singled out by a drill instructor in basic training or something.

I'm not sure if I qualify medically yet, but I was told over the phone that there's a recruiter coming to my city soon who can do medical assessments. In the meantime I was just wondering if anyone here had experience joining with light sensitivity and how that went.

I have photophobia also. Had it my whole career. I carried a med chit the whole time.

Xxxxxxxx is allowed to wear sunglasses, in sunlight, if he so desires, for a medical problem.
