I was wondering.
If you are joining the infantry would they send you to Esquimalt or Montreal for your basic training. I just found out there was one in BC but would they send people from Calgary to BC.

A couple years ago, when the CF executed a huge recruit intake the numbers were too large for the Recruit School in St Jean, PQ, to handle them all. That year, a number of other establishments across the country were tasked to set up and run recruit companies to process that massive intake. (Since then, many of those recruits have sat in backlogged PAT (personnel awaiting training) groups because the schools that do the follow-on trades training were not equipped to deal with the increase.) With recruiting back to a ‘normal‘ level, the Recruit School in St Jean can now handle the flow and all recruits will start there for the Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) course.

Added note: St Jean is the Recruit School for Regular Force candidates. Reservists will normally conduct their BMQ course at their home garrison with their parent unit/brigade.

Just a note of clarification. The final four BRT courses to be run in Esquimalt begin after new years, so there is still a (slim) chance of being sent to Esquimalt. But unless you are already on the merit list your chance of being loaded onto one of these is pretty far fetched.

Have fun in St.Jean.

Or if you‘re "lucky" (Lucky in the sense that you get better training as a result, over the weekend warrior basic) you get tasked to a summer length BMQ course. Though this may just be for some trades. Communications units conduct one each summer in CFB Shiloh.

CFLRS is in St-Jean, as noted above... Please do not get confused and thing St-Jean is Montreal. It definitely is not.
