It seems a few cartoons have ticked some people off.  Burning flags, declarations of Jihad, etc....you would think they were talking about the US, nope it seems Norway and Denmark have ruffled some feathers.  I find that a lot of times most of the talk is just bluster, but do you think they would attack Denmark?  A little interesting quote from a terrorist group......

'The Glory Brigades in Northern Europe', showed pictures of various tourist attractions in Denmark and stated that 'The Mujahedeen have numerous targets in Denmark - very soon you all will regret this', amongst other things.

I guess I am cynical, but you know as well as I do that if it had been an American (oh, say like Pat Robertson) there would have been plenty of press and ridicule.  But alas, that is the political reality we are faced with today, I just hope it is not too late for the west to wake up from it's self imposed slumber.

edited for clarity

It would hardly be news-worthy if Pat Robertson did/said something stupid or offensive - it's what he does for a living.

I've been following this story for several days now.  It's deffinitely interesting that it hasn't received much play in North America.  I guess it's not politicaly correct to point out that the middle east is filled with ignorant racist savages.  Here's the newest on the topic:

Bomb Threat Against Danish Embassy in Syria
By Anadolu News Agency (aa), Damascus
Published: Wednesday, February 01, 2006
zaman.com

The Danish Embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus was reportedly evacuated from an anonymous telephone bomb threat.

Security forces cordoned off the surrounding streets and searched the building. Embassy personnel were able to return to the building after an hour long search failed to find any explosive device.

Muslims around the world reacted harshly to the publication of humiliating cartoons of Prophet Mohammed in Danish, Norwegian newspapers, and more recently, in a French newspaper.

This is following the declaration you posted:

Infovlad.net, which previously posted threats by a jihad group to attack Sweden, has now put up posters by an unknown group, "The Glory Brigades in Northern Europe," which shows a bloodied map of Denmark and a caption that reads: "Death will visit Denmark." Images of men with machine guns and explosive devices are seen next to a map of Denmark. Another poster warns that "the Mujahadin have numerous targets in Denmark," and displays images of trains and buildings in the Scandinavian country, alongside a photograph of explosives devices.

"Very soon you will regret this," reads a caption, possibly referring to a Danish newspaper's request to readers to send in drawings of Islam's prophet, Muhammad, a move that has infuriated Danish Muslims and prompted large demonstrations.

The 'Glory Brigades' also threatened the British capital in a jihad poster that reads: "New York, Madrid, London now it’s your turn. Target: London."

Well, sunshine I know its not correct to tar a whole region of the world because of the acts of a few........and so should you if you weren't so blinded by your own hatred..... welcome to the warning system.

Excuse me?  The actions of a few?  How about the actions of the vast majority?  Would I get a verbal warning for saying that the region is filled with Muslims?  After all, not EVERYONE in the middle-east is a Muslim, right?

Well that should be an easy one for ya then....take the population statistics and then divide by the number involved and give me a percentage.....

Sorry bruce, I don't have the money to conduct a proper scientific survey.  However I never claimed a percentage in my original post, so I'm not quite clear what you expect here.  Did I say every muslim was ignorant or racist?  No.  Did I advocate genocide based on the fact that many of them are?  No.  Did I make ANY stereotypical or racist statements whatsoever?  Nope.  I simply pointed out, quite accurately, that individuals in middle-eastern nations tend to be a lot less "understanding" than the norm in the western world.  Yeah, sure, maybe I could have phrased it a little less aggressively, but the fact that you don't like the way I said it in no way invalidates the statement itself.  I'd love to know exactly what rule I've broken to neccesitate a warning.

Watch it, 48Highlander - the PC-Nazis around here get real testy when you shatter their utopian illusions by calling a spade a spade.

Bruce - I was referring to a shovel in my last sentence; so please don't slap my hoo-ha by giving me a warning as well... > ^-^

48 If you have a problem with what Bruce has done, you contact Mike Bobbit, you don't call Bruce out in this thread (show me an instance where this has worked and I shall retract).

Mo-Litia, put down your righteous indignation banner and let the staff and 48 deal with things without the aide of shit stirrers.

Naw, you get it for the flagrant use of the "nazi" term.........call me a pathetic stooge wannabee POS whatever, but dont dismiss what millions offered, and gave, thier lives for, just so you can sound "cool....

Edit:Thanks Che but he happened to hit one of my triggers....and its "C&P" for second offense.

Yes, actually you did make a rather racist statement about middle eastern people. As stated before, the people who carry out acts like this are not a majority. Your comments just go to show how western media has portrayed middle eastern people in a negative way.  As for Mo-litia's use of the Nazi term this is in extremely bad taste and context. I have noticed a lot of people being banned from this forum, but we should not complain about this and leave these matters up to the good judgement of the directing staff

In a word, yes.

Extremely.....its worthy of the Fanactic's "boot to the head"....

Well, yes, I suppose those two airliners crashing into the WTC, as well as Muslims celebrating in the streets afterwards, could be seen as "the media portraying middle eastern people in a negative way".  I'm sure that all through 9/11 you kept your TV turned off because you were so disgusted about how racist all the coverage was.

rac·ism  Audio pronunciation of "racist" ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (rszm)
n.

  1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
  2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

Anyone who looks at that definition and can somehow apply it to my statements has got to be missing a good portion of the normal human cranial mass.

1.  Nowhere did I state that Muslims are inherently evil, genocidal, idiotic, or possesing of any other characteristics due solely to their religion, or even their place of residence.  Therefore definition #1 does not apply.
2.  I have never descriminated either against or for a Middle Eastern individual, therefore definition #2 does not apply either.

Muslim?...........Oh my,, I thought you were talking about Israel............

Give it up, your statement was beyond contempt and you got called on it.

Ah, I see.  It's ok for you to make a wisecrack about Israel, but it's wrong for Mo-litia to do the same about Nazi's.  Way to set the standard Bruce.

The wisecrack was about you and your inane try at defence..............not against Israel

I just find it telling that you would care about them though, they live in the Middle East, don't they?

:brickwall:

Eh man, I don't need this sh...stuff.  You want to get in a pissing contest with someone, go ahead.  Pick one of the other DS, I'm sure you can find someone who will be more than happy to compare penis sizes with you all day.  I on the other hand am done arguing with you.  Have a good day.

Getting back to the original topic of the thread:

Editor Fired as Cartoon Controversy Goes Global

As European Newspapers republished controversial images of the Muslim prophet Muhammad from a Danish daily, the cultural conflict between the Islamic world and the West over the drawings continued to flare around the world.

Across the political spectrum, European editors said publishing the images was a defense of freedom of expression. The images, which first appeared in the conservative Danish daily Jylands Posten in September, were republished this week in Die Welt, a leading conservative daily in Germany, France Soir, a independent daily with financial problems, de Volkskrant, a progressive Dutch daily, and Corriere della Serra, a leftist Italian daily, along with eight other European papers.

And around the world, Muslims continued to take offense. The editor of France Soir was fired
today by the paper's owner, an Egyptian businessman who offered an apology to "the Muslim community and all people who were shocked by the publication."

In the Middle East, Palestinian militants issued a threat against citizens of Denmark and Norway where the drawings were first published. "All nationals and those who work in the diplomatic corps of these countries can be considered targets of the Popular Resistance Committee and Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades," the statement said, according to aljazeera.net.

Muslims also staged peaceful protest marches in Indonesia and Yemen while French Muslims vowed to sue France Soir.

"The cartoons include an image of the Prophet wearing a turban shaped as a bomb with a burning fuse, and another portraying him holding a sword, his eyes covered by a black rectangle," according to Agence France-Press. "A third pictured a middle-aged prophet standing in the desert with a walking stick, in front of a donkey and a sunset."

Reat the rest here
