While visiting the war museum in Ottawa some months ago, I was quite surprised to come across Hitler's car sitting in one of the displays...

The placard with it read something to the effect of "Originally captured by American troops, it eventually made it's way into Canadian hands".

Anyone know anything of the history of *how* it made it's way into Canadian hands? Or is my own guess of a few Canadian troops getting loaded one night and deciding it would be entertaining to swipe Hitler's car more or less accurate?

I understood that the car in the war museum was primarily used by Goering.  Is the one you are referring to the 6 wheeled armoured touring car with some damge to the bullet resistant windshield?

And a funny little article on how it came to be there:

Thanks to Just a Sig Op and Armyvern for posting that photo and article.  I see that there has been more information revealed about the car since I last saw it.
