Actually, it is the Collared Peccary, or javelina, to which I am referring. I got drawn for a javelina tag this year, archery only. Season is Jan 1st to 31st. They are quite an interesting creature, weighing on average 30-60 lbs. Although they look similar, they are not directly related to pigs. Here though, everyone calls them that. In the US, they are only found in Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico. This is only my second year hunting them (missed one cleanly last year). The quality of the meat seems debatable - most people get it made into summer sausage or chorizo (a Mexican sausage, sort of) so that is probably what I will do too.
