I moved to Canada almost three years ago and I plan to apply to the CF (Officer) when eligible.
My portfolio before going to University in the UK was very active (I helped run a swimming club for persons with disabilities, I held a show at a local hospital radio station, flew gliders competitively, was Head Boy of my school, worked with a mental health charity etc).
However, since moving to North America and 'starting all over again', things have been a little less busy.
I'm currently not volunteering - and I run a public relations business by myself. The businesses is growing and doing very well, but I don't interact with anyone aside from my clients (who are all based in the United States, so all contact is remote).
I can see this as a definite disadvantage when it comes to applying, as my life here is very business oriented and this has the double-disadvantage that I cannot supply any references from Canada for the past three years, as I work alone.
It's going to be about a year until I apply - so I take it my time would be well spent by getting back into the volunteering game and trying to fill my time with some more sociable activities?
Just want to be as prepared as possible.
Any advice, particularly on the references side of things, would be much appreciated.
