I used to be in cadets ... Annual is just a bunch of marching ... and skits
... and a high ranking officer comes and comments on your uniform .. and
makes small talk with you .. pretty boring ...

yet another ignorant backhanded comment from the Griffith Family!
these kids work very hard on their annual inspection.
Naomi,
you will get a pretty good idea what it‘s all about in the weeks to come!
It is a lot of fun and it‘s better than hanging out at 7-11 at 3 am. good
luck!

Whoever you are from the Griffith family,
Why do you insist on this kind of behaviour? Is it because you don‘t
like being told? Perhaps you should look at your own postings, today and from
the past. Then perhaps you‘d understand why you are being told. If you had shown
that direspectful behaviour on my parade square you would have been overlooked
for courses and promotions or at the very least, you would have become very
familiar with the parade square. Remedial drill will usually sort that kind of
behaviour. Now take your lumps and consider your actions.
Naomi, please disregard the comments from our immature friend from the
Griffith family, annual inspection is when you show what you‘ve learned. Spend
some extra time in that uniform, make sure there‘s a sharp crease in your tunic,
polish those boots so they absolutely glisten, make a good turn out and make
your CO proud. You are having the time of your life. With that, summer camp will
soon be here and the extra work you put into Annual Inspection will pay off.

Here Here,
I concur, it is easy for someone to put down something because of their own
narrow-mindeness. Look at annual as your cahnce to show you friends and
family what you have accomplished. They do not get to witness your numerous
accomplishments throughout the training year, but can see how you pull them
all into one consice "show"

Well, maybe you don‘t consider drill fun. Thats quite fine. I would
venture to say that things in life can be rewarding, while maybe not fitting
into the "fun" category. While mankind has somewhat of a warrior instinct,
I doubt many of the soldiers on this mailing list would think that waging
war is "fun" Image that, many days, months of fighting and not even a
twitch. Give US a break.

I guess you never did understand the pride involved in being a member of a
unit or guard detail. Knowing that 99.9 of the people out there don‘t have
the guts, stamina, pride or courage to do these things. Marching shows off
a unit‘s cohesion and ability to act as a team. Not everything in life is
meant to be fun. The fun and enjoyment comes after the inspection, and you
know you made the grade, and can hack it.

I can quite categorically state that you have completely mistaken the
character and attributes of William Durrant. I have known Bill since he was
a cadet one of the smartest who ever stood, marched or partook of any
activity on a parade square or as a member of a group of disciplined cadets
and had the pleasure of inducting him into the Canadian Armed Forces as a
member of a local Militia unit. He now holds a position that is probably
far beyond your reach or understanding. Bill is a member of a local
recruitment contingent and as such - has a powerful sway over a candidates
future endeavors in joining our present Armed Forces - whether is be in the
Regulars or in the Reserve.
Bill is the type of person who reflects the time he spent in cadets - with
pride and a sense of distinction that took him far beyond what he might have
expected if he had not joined such an ‘august‘ organization. Any member of
the Forces - who was once a cadet - but is now ‘a high ranking officer‘ when
asked to be the Reviewing Officer at an annual cadet review - will
invariably open his remarks by using the phrase "When I was a cadet" and do
this with a great deal of pride.
You give the impression, whoever you are - of being one of those individuals
who ‘missed the point.‘ Every unit has them - the disrupters, the whingers
whiners and the eventual drop outs. It is a sad day for us and for you when
you cannot answer a genuine question with a reply that most cadets would
have said, in essence - that their annual cadet review was a day to be seen
as being a proud member of an enthusiastic and keen group of people who
worked hard to show their parents, friends, officers, CI‘s and fellow cadets
from other Corps - just how sharp they were and to display a small part of
what they had accomplished in their past training year.
Good luck to all cadets on their upcoming annual reviews and summer camps.
Good luck to all ex corps members - and good luck to people like William
Durrant. Keep up the good work.

Gareth,
Well put. Hopefully our young friend can understand the error of his
ways.

Don‘t do it for your CO. Do it for the sake of your fellow members in
the Corps. That‘s what it‘s all about. You‘re part of a TEAM.

Ian,
Once again, you know when to step in and how. I stand corrected. Do it for the
team Naomi. Thanks Ian.
